    Ipswich make £10m operating loss

Ipswich Town have reported a loss of £10.3m for the year to 30 June 2009 - a rise of more than £6m compared to the previous financial year.

In a shareholder statement, the club revealed the wage bill for players and coaching staff rose from £8.3m to £11.9m with £7.2m spent on new players.

During that period players brought in included Grant Leadbitter, Tams Priskin, and Carlos Edwards.

Businessman Marcus Evans bought 87.5% of the club's shares in 2007.

The report to shareholders said the club, currently bottom of the Championship, was dependent on the financial support of his company, the Marcus Evans Group.

The club's overall deficit remains around £35m, although it says it is not in debt to any financial institution.

I think it is a good job some of us Rangers fans (not myself), didn't get their wish for Roy Keane to be manager. Still it is good that Jim has everyone now on his side.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I think our accounts next year will send the message boards into meltdown.

Our wage bill has gone through the roof in the past two years.

Thank god we have a few billionaires on the board otherwise we would be in deep trouble.

Some would go in to meltdown if the club was £10 overdrawn Funky!!

Not good news if we got promoted.Would obviously have to spend heavy on quality players to keep us up.Could see another ticket hike as well.

Hull got promoted to the Premier League, sell out every week and are currently nearly 30 million in debt.

Makes you wonder how we would cope, looking at Fulham who have a decent team are in europe and have been in the top flight a while are currently losing around 25 million a season?

          Any ideas anyone?

I think we are probably about 15 million over at the moment Paul, not including Gianni's travel costs, the training ground bill (or we will be locked out again) or the fleet of Mercs that we use to shuttle players from the Club shop to the Car Park before and after games.

Think Hull were pretty much debt free when they went up.Shows how quick you get in big problems in the Prem.Don't help when they spent all that cash on Bullard who played for 20 minutes.£5mil fee plus £50k a week. Not hard at all to run up a big debt on Prem wages.

Read their wage bill is over £40mil now.:waaaht:

Bullards contract was amazing they are in a right mess relegation (fingers crossed) could mean administration, they may end up like Leeds or Bradford.

Personally I'd love to see them go out of business.

Portsmouth were another one in deep trouble. It is so hard for a small club to survive in the Prem without big bucks bankrolling them. You can see why they are selling to Russians and Arabs.Only way many can survive as they are losing money every season.

Actually if you have a look at the date of the accounts it covers the period JM bought lots of players and Keane hadn't spent a penny at that point as the transfer window wasn't open when he took over.

The reality is that JM increased that debt dramatically not RK. Next years accounts for them is likeley to be even worse as RK has since gone on his spending spree but to blame him for this set of accounts is nonsense.

                          Oh yeah good point.
Well Roy Keane will certainly not help the situation.
Oh and no need for the nonsense statement, you have made your point.

Personally I desperatly wanted Keane and I raged when I saw he went to Ipswich. But, now...with the wonderful gift of retrospect. I am pleased we did not get him. I am incredibly suprised at the position Ipswich have found themselves in though.
