Dennis Wise and sidekick Tony Jimenez on the prowl again
31st October 2009
Football double act Tony Jiminez and Dennis Wise, hated on Tyneside for their role in the Newcastle fiasco, have since become favoured advisers for a Middle East ty**** stalking the English leagues for takeover possibilities.
Mohammed Al Hashimi, executive chairman of diversified Dubai investment group Zabeel, has twice tried to buy Charlton before withdrawing at the last moment with a deal in place.
His first bid in 2008 also involved property developer Jiminez, ludicrously employed by Newcastle on the player recruitment front before resigning to move to Charlton with Hashimi.
The happy couple: Jimenez (second left) and Wise (second right)
But a proposed £50m takeover offer disappeared under pressure from the ruling family of Dubai when the global economic crisis was at its height.
It’s understood Hashimi was also behind a recent attempt to buy Charlton, especially when it emerged that a mystery Middle Eastern businessman’s takeover terms included the employment of Wise and Jiminez.
This latest Hashimi bid hit the buffers because proof of funds never materialised and the backlash from fans over the potential arrival at the Valley of the terrible two.
Both will have a difficult job restoring their football credibility after the hapless Newcastle operation was laid bare by the d***ing tribunal report of former manager Kevin Keegan’s successful claim against the club.
Hashimi, who ironically considered buying Newcastle before turning to Charlton, is understood to be looking now at QPR and West Ham. And the one certainty is that Wise and Jiminez will be part of the package
