  • Faurlins Pace

Been reading a few boards and the general consensus is that Faurlin is amazing...albeit lacks a bit of pace. I thought the same.

But on reflection..the best midfielders in the world..in his position dont seem to have pace either? Lampard hasnt got it has he?

    I take it that's a wind up

I think Faulin looks fabulous. Reminds me of Fabragas a little, because he so rarely gives the ball away and always makes himself available.

He is very quick over 3-5 yards and that is the type of pace needed in that position, as well as reading the game well.

dunno about pace but I love it when he makes a tackle in his own box, lays it off ten yards, the ball ends up in the other box and mysteriously Alejandro is there to challenge for it having moved eighty yards without anyone noticing.

        Good motor

Dont need pace to play CM just a good engine. Cracking player and sure knows how to pick a pass.

Agreed, ala David Platt and the initial quote from Taylor as to when he spotted him at Crewe and why he signed him.

There is no argument regarding pace for a creative midfielder, it's irrelevant as not a necessity for the role. Sure pace can help and he has it over the first 10 yards as well as speed of thought to create his own space (Like Wilkins did when he played for us). That is all he needs to create the space to get his head up and pick a pass, or give it simple first time.... excellent player.

You look at all the major teams in England and the midfield creative players and there's not much pace there, becasue as said it isn't necessary:

                Scholes
                Carrick
                Deco
                Ballack
                Fabregaas
                Denilson
                Benayoun
                Alonso (before he left)
                Lucas - Only joking!!

Not the quickest but reads the game well and those sort of players always find extra space to receive the ball, watch Fabregas not the quickest but a wonderful player. He kind of reminds me a little of him the way he plays.

I think there is a lot more to come from him as he grows in confidence, there is a reason why his nickname is "el mago" in Argentina" in that he has something special have no doubt that in the future we will see an even better player.

Whether or not he has pace, is not important. What is important for a central midfielder, is the way he reads the game and his ability to pass the ball, tackle and stamina. And from what I have seen so far, he has these in abundance.

I think that once he fully settles in the country and team, he will add goals to his game too.

He has a quick mind and that's all that matters. Him and Mahon work brilliantly together.
