again i have to agree with w12(this is now fast becomming a major concern ).............our midfield 'six' whichever permatation is as good as 40% of the premiership sides ...........sides like hull, wolves, wet spam, brum, burnley would gladly swop theirs for ours at this moment in time!
I was actually pondering yesterday how many new signings we would need if promoted. My conclusions were as follows:
Defence - Only Gorkks, Connolly and Legs (if we look at him as a right back) would be good enough for the Prem with Hall potentially good enough as a squad player. I think the likes of Ramage, Borrowdale and Stewart would be made to look silly in top flight football.
Midfield - Our starting midfield of recent weeks has Premiership quality written all over it. I have no doubt that Taarabt, Routledge, Faurlin, Buz and Watson would step up to Premier League football well. Beyond those five I think we would need to strengthen. Rowlands (if he returns to fitness) would be a decent squad player, the rest I think would not be strong enough.
Up Front - Simpson is an interesting one, was not good enough last time round in the Prem but has definitely matured as a player and should we hold onto him could be Premiership quality. Beyond that I can't see any of our strikers cutting it in top flight footbal but would probably hang onto Rowan Vine as a squad player.
The way we pass and our movement off the ball going forward i think we could compete with some of the prem teams yes, not right at the back yet though for me, and that would be a massive concern comming up agianst forward players as good as ours.
Yes & no for me.....Dont want to put a downer on things, Taraabt & Buzz 110% yes. Routledge probably but had spells in the prem and the teams got rid.....Watson if good enough would be in the Wigan side IMO, it's not like his trying to get into the Man United side we are talking about Wigan!!! Faurlin looks like he probably could do a job, but I will need to see more of him. The football we are playing though is great and we wouldnt look out of place in the prem IMO.
You only have to look at the Chelsea match to see we competed against a top quality team who were trying ****** hard. However, they didn't have Drogba or Anelka, and I think those are the types of players we need to worry about. However in terms of the normal Premiership teams, if we played in it now I think we would stay up.
I think Heaton will be Premiership quality, and although I like Cerny loads, if we are thinking about going up and doing well, we might want to consider playing Heaton and trying to buy him if he impresses.
