Well it isn't Hooper because his contract ends in 2011. But the following Championship strikers all have a contract that ends next summer:

    DJ Campbell
    Pablo Counago
    Paul D*ckov
    Jay Boothroyd
    Simon Church
    George Boyd
    Roman Bednar
    Nathan Ellington
    Leon Best

      Out of those I'd have:

      Best
      Boyd
      Bednar
      Ellington
      Bothroyd

all can score goals at this level

If we get to January and are in the top two, I would expect the board will be looking to buy players that can make a contribution in the Premiership, otherwise it would be silly spending money on a player that is likely to be of no use in six months time.

That being so, I would say they should really think twice about Beckford. Jumping from the first division to the Premiership is a huge jump.

But then, they may decide to concentrate just for now on getting up and decide about a Premiership squad in the summer.

One final thing about Beckford, does he not have an attitude problem ? If so, do we really want someone like him i our dressing room given that he would well be on the subs bench quite a bit. Another Steve Slade we do not want.

Are there any proven Premiership strikers that would consider coming down a league for six months?

          Conners very good post.
I actually don't want Beckford and I think he is overrated.
He is not a premiership player and I also don't think he would be great in the championship. He is scoring goals for the best team in a poor league. He gets loads of chances and has been missing sitters and under performing in big games.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Must say he looks very sharp and would think he would fit in very nicely, along with Mackail-Smith .

That's my concern also... i don;t want us buying for the sake of it and unsettling the ship so to speak...

Best example was Asprilla at Newcastle. They were flying until turn of year and 12 points clear.... buy Faustino and then Keegan felt obligated to play him to justify the high transfer fee and it messed up the continuity completely. The rest is history, as is Newcastle's chance of ever winning the league.

Ellington is 2011. (according to Wikipedia anyway)

Leon Best - Flavour of the month?
6 goals this season... but only 2 league goals last season, and 8 the season before.

I'm fully convinced, I think, that the board will invest the required amount in January.

That be mad not to, the goal of being in the premiership is maybe within touching distance.
I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.
