  • The problem with....

loyal fans, they let there hart rule there head....
most football people would say we are dodgy at the back,we need full backs not C/Bs playing wide, i believe with two additions we would be a complete side, neither of the two im talking about play up front.

think winalotto is right - ramage is really poor and borrowdale is at bet average. but v happy with legs at right back. do think we need spurr or a left back of similar standard.

What makes you think Spurr is better than Borrowdale

Do you watch Sheffield Wed every week?

nothing wrong with our team. Okay, we can look a bit dodgy at the back, but its because we are going forward all the time and attack minded.

Would keep Borrowdale at left back and buy a genuine right back.Have Ramage and Legs as back up CB/RB and midfielder/RB.If they don't like it then sell them.

Don't judge a player by one game, yes he was poor at Watford last night but i would have him in my team, no problem.

I was a big supporter of the 'sign Spurr' campaign on here. But lately i have been pretty impressed with Borrowdale.Would rather concentrate our efforts on signing Simpson and Watson. And,probably unlikely,Taarabt.

Sign Spurr or Cruise and at right back how about Ifill?
When our full back possitions are filled thats it.

i agree about the poor defending,we looked all at sea with no shape tonight;that includes stewart and gorkks.jm needs to sort the back four out as there are far better teams than derby to play.they just did not look secure tonight

Well it was diabolical defending on there first goal. ****ov was left completely unmarked in the middle of the area.
                      More work needed there.

I'm comfortable with Legs and Borrowdale as full backs.

I thought Borrowdale's distribution yesterday was outstanding he is part of a winning team growing in confidence all the time and is building an understanding with the players around him.

I have had my reservations but the one thing about Borrowdale is he does the simple things so effectively and many moves at the moment involve him laying a simple ball off to Taarabt or Faurlin at the start of it. You'd be surprised how many Full Backs at this level are incapable of making this simple 5-10 yard pass including Delaney. I haven't seen Borrowdale leave us exposed at the back in the way Delaney use to (every game), the lad simply does not give the ball away cheaply.

Don't get me wrong I don't think he is a world beater but at this level I'm not entirely convinced the grass is greener elsewhere...I'm yet to see a LB in this divison this season deal with Routledge.

As a FOOTBALLER, Borrowdale is plenty good enough. His passing is good, and his first touch.
It's his defending that is shaky.
He is often out of position, and hasn't the pace to recover like others.
He is weak in the air.
He doesn't get in the face of his winger enough, and backs off.. allowing crosses to come in too often.

Going forward and linking up, he is plenty good enough.

But when people highlight his shortfalls defensively - they are jumped on... because it's being lost in the whole team performance lately.
There was a deep cross yesterday where little fat Lee Croft beat him in the air, then beat him to the second ball out wide, then was allowed to get a cross in too easily. It sort of summed him up.
But he DOES pass and control a ball very well.

Not just slagging him for the sake of it, but he needs to be sharper and more aggressive defensively.
And we have NO cover for him. That needs addressing, at least.

I totally agree with you and these are all shortfalls in his play I have highlighted in his play this season.

However, defensively I have noted improvement of late and his positioning has improved substantially since the start of the season. What I am looking at here are the positives because as it stands Gary Borrowdale is a cog which fits into a well oiled machine.

You have also highlighted a very important attribute required to fit into JM/JG team - he is a comfortable footballer, something which his predecessor was definately not.

The aggressive part of his game I hope will come but at this level many an aggressive defender will commit themselves to easily, give away free kicks cheaply and not stay on their feet enough which is something you couldn't say Borrowdale is really guilty off given the nature of his play.

Given the choice over an agrressive, good in the air, tough tackling lump like Delaney I'll take Gary Borrowdale any day of week.
