  • Gary Borrowdale - UPDATE

Spoke to a friend of mine who went to Stadium:MK to see his Brighton side lose to the MK Dons 2-0 on Saturday. I asked him for an update of how Borrowdale was doing. His response was "he has a very good left foot and knows how to put in a decent cross but he hasn't got a clue how to defend". I asked if you could sign him permanently would you? His response "No, he isn't good enough at this level".

Maybe he was just annoyed having seen his team lose again but he has seen Borrowdale a few times now (which is more than most of us ever have) and doesn't think he has what it takes to be a full back at League One level let alone in the Championship.

    Anyone else heard the same?

I think on request from Dowie with the deal brokered by Paladini.

Paladini would have brokered the deal but word on the street he was a 'Dowie' signing. Although by the time he came in January Dowie had left a few months previously and he certainly wouldn't have been a Sousa signing. Saying that though he has been on the QPR radar for nearly a year so well before Dowie came to us. I don't know who to believe but otherwise the signing sums up our shocking some of our signings have been in the last 12 months. A total farce!

You're right Delaney doesn't even put in a decent cross - he has been the shadow of the player he was last season.

I am sure if you check back when Pete told us the truth about Borrowdale he stated that Gigi really wanted him when he arrived last season :scorn:

Make of that what you will

The whole deal smacks of incompotence. We had him on loan long enough to have known if the manager wanted him. Why then buy him and give him a contract.

This is the original message from the old board :

"Okay, here is the truth about Borrowdale. I've been holding back, as it seems many find pleasure in going on and on about this player and the fact he doesn;t get a look in.

De Canio wanted Borrowdale last year but it was felt it would be better to wait instead of paying 900k for a player out of contract (or near end of contract). Then Dowie takes over and he too wanted the player. We have to prepare with players before the January transfer window, you do not want to lose out to other clubs.

The fact is, we decided to go in for Borrowdale based on the fact Delaney was going to go to Ipswich for 750k in January after Ipswich wanted him and had been pursuing him for about 6 weeks.

In order to make sure we did not fall short in that position the club decided to get Borrowdale. Bearing in mind he has played at England youth level and players like Hall, leighterwood and others said also he was a very good player.

At the last minute Delaney decides not TO GO TO Ipswich. This is after we have made the move for Borrowdale and promised him that he would be our first choice left back, on the premise that Delaney moves to Ipswich. All along right up to late in the day, Delaney is off to ipswich Town, so what do we do?

Get Borrowdale or bank on having no left back cover? The decision was taken to get Borrowdale in for an attractive price of around 100k. Soon after Delaney decides he is not going anywhere.

You could say, that Sousa obviously doesn't fancy him, but we were not to know that. As for Sousa buying the players?/ ask yourself, what would he know about left backs available in the championship back in December? "

Does make me wonder what would LDC have known about left backs in the Championship last year too?

Clutching at straws there, last few games Delaney has slowly been recapturing his form of last season, yet you think Borrowdale, a man who hasn't turned out for the first team is better!

Delaney has been ok recently. Its his distribution like Ramage which lets him down. But ultimately he is a defender and he has been part of what can argubaly be said the best defence since the days of Wilson, McDonald and Bardsley etc.

It's down to the midfielders to create chances which they haven't. Delaney and his defence have the 4th best defence in the league.

He is on a 3.5 year contract which beggars belief!

If Di Canio keeps his side up this season, he should be the first player to leave QPR.
Di Canio & Dowie both wanted him but Sousa didn't and was to late to turn back.
