Be in place as ready replacement after Burton and Fulham debacles.

McLaren is an excellent coach, but a pretty poor manager. I wouldn't want him being lined up as Hasselbaink's replacement, but he'd be an asset on the coaching team.

Some of the best football I have seen for a long time when he supported Redknapp

Really don't see how this could make a difference if jfh still sets up his team the way he wants. He has heard the view from fans that they're not happy and why but still goes the same way. Unless he changes things up things will stay the same. Not sure he would listen to Mclaren with regards to changing set up so maybe this is just a training decision. Looks like a dof decision to bring him in if it happens.

But as it is Jimmy's already got about 3 or 4 assistants/coaches. You'd have to lose at least one of those before bringing in another IMO, otherwise it's just too many chefs.

Moreover, if this is something being foisted on him by the owner that's not a healthy situation either.

Then that would mean they think jfh may be out of his depth

Correct, if the article is to be believed. However the situation you're then creating is the owner undermining his manager, which doesn't look good at all.
