  • Hasselbaink on respect for referees and technology in football

While he insists that respect for the referee is paramount, he urged the governing body to remember that football is a game of emotions, impulses and, inevitably, human error.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink stressed that football is an emotional game and urged people to understand that, in the heat of the moment, an improper reaction may take place.

The Dutchman is likely to face censure for his comments regarding the match officials after QPR's 3-2 defeat at Barnsley last week.

The new directives on dissent and grappling, why has it taken at least 10 years to do something about it?

I have got zero sympathy for managers, they should be mature and whist their jobs are on the line, be discreet and not get carried away. If an 18 year old gets a yellow card for diving when he was clipped, then it is easier to have sympathy with him in the heat of the moment, but you do not see players in other sports (e.g. rugby) doing what football players continually do. Last season any time a decision went against Man United you would see five of six players surrounding the referee. I would like every player who does this to get a yellow card, and should they do it a second time, then for them all to be sent off and that club to forfeit the game. If this happened suddenly everyone would respect the referee (even if his decision was wrong).
When the top players don't respect the referees you think it must be awful if someone is officiating at a lower level, so I am fully behind the new policy

        I love this new directive.
i find the total disdain and disrespect for the match officials a disgrace.
Now, I am the first to admit I show them the same disdain and disrespect from the stands but that is not on TV in front of youngsters to view and copy.

the biggest crime/liberty is what refs let the big clubs get away with . james collins of whu gets booked against chelsea 1st game of the season thats fine , but then diego costa already on a yellow is late and stamps on the whu goalkeeper and gets nothing , when his foul was much worse than collins was....
