  • JFH considering 4-4-2 / 3-5-2 once Conor fully fit

He said: “It's an option for me to play two up front and we're looking at that.

I had to give Conor four weeks off after the Euros because if you give him less you're going to end up having injuries or a bigger chance of getting those injuries and he is getting into it now."

Can't see it. He had all last season to experiment with formations and he stuck with what he knows. I'd be a bit disappointed if he started experimenting now when he's had last season to work on things. 4-2-3-1 suits us in so many ways. No harm in having a plan B but 4-2-3-1 definitely suits us.

I think that's what he means though. It's a plan B when things aren't going your way.

Alternatively it's an occasional option to play from the start depending on the opposition, or for the surprise element.

JFH just showing kidology / tactical nous.

Well it's a non story then isn't it. I'd hope any manager would throw on an extra striker if pushing for an equaliser etc.

Cup games like tonight I agree with changing things up as he'll probably have to as 4-2-3-1 doesn't suit players like Conor. League games I'd be amazed and disappointed if he moved away from 4-2-3-1 with a fully fit squad to choose from.

Crikey...don't want to see Caulker and Ned in a 3-5-2 EVER AGAIN !

Not really. It's a story because he's coming out and saying he's actually looking at playing with two strikers (as an alternative formation to 4-2-3-1). We haven't heard that from him before.

Would love to see Connor and Polti make it work up top together, could be a real force!

3-5-2 could work against the lesser teams like Swindon with Bidwell and Perch or others as wing backs

Go on Hal mate, you're gonna love hearing this.

352 sorts out the issue of not really having much quality in wingers. But it does mean Chery could be hindered unless played as a 2nd striker..

                      Smithies

                      Ned Hall Lynch/Caulker
                      Perch Luongo Henry Cousins Bidwell
                      Chery/washington Polter
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
                      Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

I really doubt we'll see 3 at the back under Jimmy. All his teams have lined up 4 at the back (from what I've seen) and the playing style really does seem to be built around 2 solid banks of 4.

4-4-2 is a possibility but to me it doesn't make sense when Polter is doing so well up top on his own. Chery also looks good in the number 10 role and we have good options on the wings. If we play with 2 up top then we'd need to sacrifice one of the wingers or Chery......or lose a bit of bite in the centre of the park. Personally I don't see any of those options being an improvement in any way, particularly seeing as Washington hasn't impressed so far.

For me the best place for Washington is on the bench. We can chuck him on if we need to push an extra man up top when chasing a game or when Polter needs a breather!

                            I really don't!

Remember how out of sorts Caulker looked in a back 3 under Harry? Also Bidwell and Perch as offensive wing backs doesn't look right to me. Both are better suited to playing as a standard full back.

Stick to 4 at the back, it's suits our squad better, it suits the league better and the players understand it better!
