a) Its goal of making the club sustainable and no longer getting into further debt. Have you not heard any of the CEO's statements over the last 6 months? I don't know how many times he's reiterated that point.
b) The longstanding FFP issue.

The alternative is an acceptance of mid table at best for a good while - and that's fine if everyone (including the powers that be) comes out of the closet and says so. But I'm not hearing that. From anyone.

The trouble is that we are competing with almost every club in a search for a decent forward. There ain't a great choice available and those that are can be choosy where they want to go, do they want to come to a club like ours with our recent history?I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

It's looking like the club are seeing Burnley as the model going forward. No coincidence that we have their former CEO on board. Burnley built their team on a shoestring and got promoted. Promotion solved any financial worries at the club and they also used the Premiership money to gradually improve the quality of the squad. They were happy to go down and not over-react, they're now back as champions and in the most lucrative season ever for the Premier League with a healthy balance sheet and a decent quality squad which may well keep them there this time. Just about as stark a contrast imaginable to the way we went about getting and staying there.

What they have said is this is a period of consolidation with the long-term aim of getting back to the PL, but only on a stable and sustainable financial footing. Nobody on the board has said the aim for this season is promotion - the reasons for which I also set out above.
The problem with buying PR speak like 'long term' wholesale is that it avoids anyone having to say 'basically we fvcked up so badly that we're now mid term champ at best for the forseeable' You can dress it up with terms like 'development' but development can take years in itself. Remember Dario Gradi at Crewe? Everyone loved them because they only did development and DG steadily sold on a stream of talent. And yet they were relegated last term. Would that model work for you? Because guess what, development can lead down as well as up. People need to define their terms in this debate and say what they mean or what they would deem acceptable. You refer me to the CEO but surprise surprise, he hasn't defined anything at all.
Now lets talk 'sustainable financial footing'. If 'long term development' equates to stasis, is that sustainable? Boom and bust isn't the greatest business plan, but to me that looks pretty much like what we have here. That's why I think a median needs to be found.
I don't think TF had a clue about running a football club - or an F1 team - and although I do not doubt his commitment I seriously wonder if the current reactionary policy will benefit him or the club long term.

I fully accept that we could get relegated before promotion, it has happened to other clubs and it could to us. It probably won't happen , I think we easily have a mid table team who if pulled together and worked hard.could finish higher. They all know that the previous transfers were failures, big failures as thats why we got relegated which is why they are changing the policy. I don't think this season will be pretty.and beautiful football but I think we will see a lot hard working fitter players able to challenge for a full game and not let in as many late goals.

Spot on Hal9thou !!
All this rebuilding talk - we need to strike now whilst we still have parachute payments and money in from Phillips et al ,,,
Don't take the opportunity and we will be again languishing in lower divisions for foreseeable future ,,,
All this talk of rebuilding is a sell out ,,, we should be grabbing the bull by the horns - sensible but not necessarily bargain basement purchases ,,,
We need to spend some money, particularly on a semi decent striker/winger ,,,
We don't have to repeat our mistakes from the past but quality is neededLast edited by skranger; 21-07-2016, 11:10 AM.
