What was everybody's impression of the European championships. I think on the whole they were pretty poor, and the best team didn't win. Also I can never understand why the final has to be shown on BBC and ITV. Surely it would have been enough to show the final on one side with highlights on the other as they did in the other rounds.

Portugal played an excellent final, especially after losing Ronaldo so early on. The rest of the team really stepped up to that challenge and their defensive play was superb the way they nullified the French threat. A team that love defending and very hard to beat. So credit must go to them for that.

Overall, of all the teams I watched I think I was most impressed by the Italians. Tactically just superb given their limited amount of individual talent.

However it wasn't a particularly entertaining tournament, mainly due to the third place team qualifying rule which encouraged negativity and defensive play.

Goal of the tournament IMO goes to Shaqiri's beautiful bicycle kick, closely followed by Modric's stunning volley.

Not the best tournament by any stretch of the imagination. Early rounds seemed dominated by off the field incidents and like Stanley said, the new set up with 3rd place teams going through encouraged safe defending attitudes. Northern Ireland clinging onto a 1-0 loss to Germany to ensure 3rd place qualification was a bit of a joke. Think Germany were the best team in the tournament, but ultimately being defending won the tournament really, not attacking.

Also as much as he has changed now, thought Ronaldo going off was a bit of Karma for the winking incident.

Not sure when they determine who won player of the tournament but not sure who should actually win this? Payet decent early rounds but off the boil in the knockout stages. not many other standouts really.....maybe Bale?

Bale was good but Portugal tamed him in their game.

The Portuguese keeper has got to be the stand out player, superb throughout, which says a lot about this tournament. What will we remember about it in a few years time? Not a lot I would wager.

I can't admire Portugal. I haven't forgotten the Winker thing and I can't stand all the rolling around and face holding. Pepe - great defender, massive cheat.
