Well why would we go into the season starting a different back line to the one that ended last season? It seems like you didn't read my post where I said that we should minimise changes to the first 11 where possible for the opening game. If ned or Hall start playing badly, we go to Lynch and/or Caulker. It's not rocket science, new players have to earn their place in the lineup.

I don't disagree wildly with that view, but I do think it's only a matter of time before Lynch proves to be a starter. So I am trying to pre-empt a situation where JFH feels obligated to start with Ned more because he is the captain and not because he is necessarily the best choice in that position - which is NEVER a good position to be in. The captain should always be one of the first players on the team-sheet. This is just another reason why giving him the armband causes problems.

But we can't say that, again, Ned overall performed better than Lynch last season, he did a lot more to stop goals going in, created more offensively, did plenty to warrant being a starter and you should never change a side for the sake of instigating change. Just going to repeat that Onuoha was part of a defence which conceded 54 goals, Lynch was part of the defence which conceded 70 and by whoscored rating, was considered to be the slightly worse of the pairing with Hudson. People are more hopeful than anything that Lynch is better than Ned, but Ned's been better for a long time and he may remain that way. If he performs well, he should stay starting, if he doesn't he should get replaced but we can't just say that "well he probably won't play as well as Lynch so lets get him our early because then we don't have to find out".

Hope Lynch starts and Perch or someone else plays RB, Onouha has had his time... Bet he is still on massive money. Like previous posters say.. The captaincy doesn't matter, will go along with that. But we need one on the pitch when Onouha gets dropped. Only a matter of time.

Ned also made more mistakes ,gave the ball away more frequently and caused more panics. You don't cause much offensively by passes back to the keeper,sideways or 1ft forward passes
or even the occasional panic run forward when you don't know what to do. JFH must like him because recognising he is not our best centre half is trying to re invent him a right back.

If Ned is blocking the ball, then he's doing his job as a defender because they aren't getting shots on goal so I don't get your point. A defenders job is to stop goals going in no matter what. Ned has done that better than anyone at the club, putting his body in the way of everything, covering for other defenders who aren't in position and leading the back line, making sure that everyone can do their job. Why do you think Hall felt so comfortable? Because he knew that if he was caught out for pace, Ned would be there to cover him. He put himself in the firing line for criticism because he's always there trying to stop it going in.

ned can't read a game , he's in trouble before he knows it . yes he'll give you 100% but is forever getting caught napping . he's one of those players that looks awkward and it's a relief when he hoofs it . where as hall looks composed and comfortable on the ball . it's a new start for us so i'd change the captain .

Yes you are competently missing the point. Is the fact he is getting block in, because he isnt tight enough in the first place. He isnt doing his job initially which leads to a shooting chance. He makes great last ditch challenges because he left his man free and forced to dive for it. Half decent defender wouldn't have to make them last ditch challenges, they would have already stopped the attack before that.

RIG mate, I've just said above I watch every game twice, so don't patronise me and tell me to get my head out of the books. I don't care when he does his job as long as it's done within the 90 minutes every match. If he's not close enough at first, he'll still get the block in and that is more than enough. Why are we trying to get a Nesta when we're QPR. Different players defend differently ffs. Ned knows his weaknesses so he plays to his strengths, which are his strength, his pace, his commitment, and he does all of that well. Who cares if he does or doesn't have to make last ditch challenges as long as he makes them.
