  • Hoos on our transfer budget!

Rangers CEO outlines model that was a success for former club Burnley - but warns of the pitfalls of paying fat salaries and finding a squad thin on the ground

can't be arsed to get into the hoilett debate but we are mental if we offer him big wages to stay. Money should be spent elsewhere on a player who actually has a end product. We had defenders with more assists this year.

I quite like the idea of a smaller squad to be honest. Definitely a risk but like he said if you get a bit of luck with injures we could put together something pretty decent. Plus id like to see continuity as much as possible in the first 11 with decent options on the bench to use when needed.

What's a small squad though??? If you have strength in depth in the youth ranks its worth it; do we have the potential coming through???

I imagine they are talking about having 19/20 'first team' players rather than the full 25 man squad.

I wouldn't mind that especially if we the youngsters like kepewka, petrasso and doughty don't fall into the necessary 18-20 but are very much part of the squad if you know what I mean.

It's a gamble worth taking for me , I can take bad luck with injuries if we are playing well but what I can't take is drossball even at the expense of having a small squad

We obviously have to buy fit players from now on. Listening to his interview, Sir Les did not think our youngsters were good enough.

The article doesn't mention offering Hoilett big wages to stay, just that we are in talks.

If the full squads 25,most are on big money anyway for what we are going to be paying,so whats the difference? seems a daft comment to me! cant see thats going to make any difference if the manager & scouts dont pick particurly the right players,we`ve just had seasons with players on big money,& it didnt make us any better!

I like what he says. It makes good sense and is clearly a model that's been successful with Burnley, and at least he's speaking from experience.

We seem to get a lot of injuries though, particularily hamstrings IIRC, how's he going to turn that one around?

I've often wondered if that's true.

According to this article (interesting read) - 'A professional football team can expect at least 6 players per season out of a 25 man squad to suffer from a hamstring pull.'

And this article asks why there were so many hamstring injuries at Liverpool earlier this season and finds it hard to draw a conclusion; it may simply be a coincidental spike in injuries, or it may be down to a change in playing style.

If Jimmy can get the team properly fit and the training regimes and warm ups and warm downs are spot on, hamstring injuries should be minimised.

Hamstring injuries can be caused my a mixture of reasons. The 2 main factors that I have experienced, that seem to be the majority are age, if you have quite a few older players in there 30's or lightening quick players which doesn't really make sense as why we had so many. The latter certainly isn't a cause for concern. Stretching before and after is crucial. Players that tend to have them once can have a weaknesses so the injury will reoccur. It's one of those injury's you never know when its properly healed even at a pro level. I wouldn't trim the squad too thin, and it would be bizarre to save 40k a week for such a risk. It would definitely work better in the premier. Leicester only needed a squad of 14
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Could it be our training facilities are inadequate.
