A play off place. If we get results I don't care if our play is a bit flaky.

        or

A new spine for the side, a positive playing style and a higher finish than we had this season. Ready to push for a playoff place for in 2017/18.

Look organized, competitive and credible as a football club.

some decent football for starters. A play-off place minimum, or Jimmy's toast
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

Agree with this. Hopefully flirting with the play off's. To reach the play off's would be a fantastic achievement, but top 10 and Jimmy keeps his job and we build again would be good.

8th or above. Flirting with play-offs will be a major achievement IMO.

I'd like to see us retaining possession FAR better.

I've always strongly believed in the adage if the opposition don't have the ball then they can't hurt you. IMO this has been one of our main weaknesses over the last few years, mainly because we've lacked the quality in midfield to be able to keep the ball under pressure. As Bill Shankly so wisely used to say "Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple." That 'pass and move' philosophy is just as true today as it's ever been.

It's all very well JFH wanting to play a high-tempo game but he needs to get the basics right first. Playing high-tempo is completely useless if you can't control and keep the football in the first place. We need a midfield who are adept enough at this that it's second nature to them. We don't presently have that, and haven't for a long time now.

Not to mention needing a new RB, CB and CF.

Anywhere between 1st and 8th, really... I think the board and Manager would be frustrated if it was less, if they was being brutally honest.

Good core at the club now, rid of 3 Perm players (Fer, Sandro and Caulker if possible) bring in 5 decent new players and we have a chance.

I think you've got it the wrong way round mate. High tempo usually translates to less possession. What I'd like to see is better transitions. I don't care how little we have the ball, as long as when we do, we actually create chances. Playing high tempo is nigh on impossible to be a possession team unless you're barcelona. High tempo is Leicester, Atleti, etc. You really need world class players to play high tempo and possession and you won't get that here at LR. In my opinion.
"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

Exactly. So I have it the correct way round because retaining possession is more important IMO. The OP is asking what WE fans class as progress, not JFH. There's your clue.

Be careful. No one else on here thinks possession matters.

What they don't get is that the less possession you have, the better you have to be on the ball.

Leicester may not have dominated possession, but they used it properly.

Fully agree Hal, and it's not a popularity contest. It's a basic tenet I've always believed in regardless of how many may agree with it.

Top half, creeping into the playoffs will be massive.

But I really hope the standard of football improves...because it was awful.
