  • Are we in crisis (again!)? At least 14 new signings needed and we have no money!

Hill, Faurlin, Green, Diakite, Yun, Traore, Gobern all gone! So with these 7 gone and Angella and Konch loans finished that's 9 we need.

Then what about Fer, Caulker and Sandro? Will they be coming back off loan? Doubtful! That's 12 out.

JET clearly doesn't have a future and Hoillet wants away.

    That's just the 14 needed!!

Others that may not stay include Henry, Tozser & Gladwin.

Here we go again! Another rebuild. Being positive that's a chance for JFH to get in his own team but we have been here too many times in the recent past and the signings he's made so far have been less than inspiring.

So are we in crisis or is this another "new beginning"?

It's not really another rebuild. It's a continuation of the rebuild started previouosly, where we get rid of high-earners in order to not get into further trouble with FFP. And most importantly, to get the in-house finances as healthy as possible to create a solid foundation for the club's future.

A rebuild doesn't happen in a transfer window or two. It takes several seasons.

All that being said, the prospect of having to change half of the squad is frightening. I'm happy about most of the players above being shown the door, but getting the right players in will be the make-or-break test for JFH. And possibly Les as well?

We still have a squad of around 20 senior pros, and thats not including the ones out on loan or two the club are in talks with about new contracts.
It should be about adding quality, rather than quantity over the summer.
In the past we've always seemed to have a bloated squad, and continued to add more rubbish to it.

        Positives however are;
        Chery
        Luongo
        Hall
        Kwepka
        Polts
        Smithies (& Ingram)
        Robinson

Jury's out on Chief, Phillips, Washington & El K but we have a (very small) nucleolus but we definitely need some more quality and experience in the squad!

Why do we need 9 in the first place? It's not like Yun, Traore, Diakite, Gobern or Green needed replacing. They weren't even involved really apart from Green and he's already been replaced.
Fer, Caulker and Sandro haven't been needed so again, they don't need replacing so much. JET himself doesn't need replacing, we just need an proper striker, but Hoilett needs replacing although perhaps Petrasso is that player.
Those 2 midfielders (assuming Karl stays which is the hope), we already have replacements at the club in the form of Doughty, Comley, etc.

In truth, the first team rebuild isn't that huge thankfully, it's just about building a squad full of youthful and energetic players. What needs replacing is one centre mid spot, a full back starter, a centre back starter, a winger and a striker. Everything else is secondary.

I think we are still very much on a rebuild.

We did invest well last year with a couple of mistakes to. But the clear out process is not easy. Yes we need to bring in 10-12 players again but I believe 6 or 7 of them are what I'd call big long term signings for the first 11.

The others will be to add depth to the squid.

              Squad status as it stands

              Gk
              Smithies
              Ingram
              Lunley
              * we are sorted here unless the rumours about smithies are true

              Defence
              Hall
              Perch
              Kepewka
              Robinson
              Ned
              Caulker

              * we need another CB if caulker goes and someone to push perch for a start at rb. But not massive surgery.

              Midfield

              Petrasso
              Luongo
              Gladwin
              *phillips
              * fer
              * Sandro
              *hoilett
              Naseer
              Cherry
              Henry

              * more than likely to leave. This is where we need to focus are most attention. 2 cms are a minimum requirement and you could argue 3 especially if Henry doesn't resign. Add a dm and at least two wingers. Getting the midfield right is crucial to how we perform next season. In that list only cherry is a starter for me possibly luongo. The likes of petrasso should be knocking on the door though. Depends what our ambitions are.

              Upfront

              Washington
              Polter

              * we clearly need a class a striker if we are serious about going up. 1 more quality addition is needed into.

Imo we need 7 or 8 first team additions to be competitive and 3 or 4 said players.

So the op is right in terms of another fairly big rebuild.

Know what you mean about the bloated but 20 is stretching it a bit 16 is more accurate but we look thin on the ground and lightweight and probably need 8 new signings with a couple of loans

We don't yet know if any money will be splashed. Certainly wages will go down massively as a result of departures but against that need to consider we now need to stay within FFP.

Players currently on our books who may leave and free up further wages and perhaps produce transfer fees are Caulker, Fer, Sandro and Phillips. Doubt a new deal will be agreed with Hoilett so freeing up further wages although personally would like him to stay.

Not a complete rebuild but lots of work to do. If JFH does it right, and may not be all done over just a single summer, could well be the start of a new era at the club. We have the start of a squad even if all those players do go:

                  Ingram, Smithies, Lumley
Perch, Hall, Chief, Robinson, Cole, Furlong
Gladwin, Luongo, Chery, Toszer, Henry, Mackie, Petrasso, Grego-Cox, Doughty, Sutherland, Comley
                  Polter, Washington

Long way off being ready for top part of the league but add in some freebies and a few astute signings and would suddenly look a lot better. Next season though has to see us properly take the plunge on some proper playing time for some of the youngsters, sink or swim for them. Am looking forward to seeing what happens.

We need at least 5 possibly 6 or 7 first team players if we are to compete at the top of the division let alone filling out the squad.

We could easily see 10 -12 new players come through the door this summer!

In my opinion after how we`ve performed this season, with all these departures our sides going to be quite worrying for me if all we`re going to do is spending on the cheap & lower league players, can see us really struggling, plus with no real leaders or qpr players who will bleed for the shirt, could end up fighting to stay in the league, definately if they dont buy any quality anyway!

With the greatest will in the world Grego-Cox, Comley, Sutherland, Doughty and Furlong are all fringe players and won't get us up. To have a squad to get promotion we need players who could play in the Premier. These boys although young and enthusiastic wouldn't cut it in the Prem. Compare that squad with Burnley and Boro and we are miles away!!! We need to get at least 10 quality players in by signing and loaning. Let's hope JFH has the pull to attract them! BTW you forgot El K!!!

I'm not worried about us spending money though. I think we will be more prudent but I 100% believe we will invest in the playing squad.

If we sell Phillips, Sandro and fer that's a good 12 mill in the kitty I would think and the club have backed all the mangers since to in charge. Sometimes to excessively but I think we will have a well thought out plan and bring in 3 or 4 players worth 2.5- 4 mill and maybe 3 or 4 at around the 2 mill Mark.

We won't completely go down the free transfer route.

Yes I'm aware of that, but a lot of the issue of depth can be solved by our youth players (Doughty, Cole, Furlong, Petrasso, Comley, Lumley, Prouhouly, Grego-Cox). That's what QPR should be all about, giving these guys trust that they can be involved. The first team is what needs replacing and there as I've said, we need a Right back, centre back, centre mid, winger and striker. Get all that and at bare minimum you have 19 players. Add Ingram, Polter, CW (if he's still here), Henry, Perch, Mackie and a new Centre back and you have a squad of 25 players there without too much done. The rest of the squad can be freebies.
