Maybe this post will help explain a things?
There's a problem with pre-mod, let's say you're posts are being approved by us. One of the team members will have to look at the post before it its approval, none of us are online 24/7. The team do not get paid to sit here as we can't afford it, however we do give to charity and provide prizes which the moderators can join in with. The moderators don't feel any power, infact they feel pretty helpless most of the time due to the rules and having to make everyone understand them. Once again none of the moderators want to ban anyone.
This past month we're not even covering the running costs per day as it's been so dead, we don't want to ban a single person, we all support QPR but to look after the forum and make sure we're still here next month, we have to follow the rules from advertisers. If we go back 2 or 3 years you'll remember that we lost our ad revenue for 3 to 4 months whilst I was abroad, this was due to something now a banned member had posted. This member was still posting on here and was not banned for it, he was warned. All we were provided with is look at our rules and make sure your site follows it, they didn't tell us what it was or where to find it, we didn't even know if it was a picture from the web or something which was said on a post?
Where do I start looking? We had thousands of threads and posts within them too. How could I go through them all looking for something that they have spotted on here. Those few months I hardly slept and was doing all I could to try spot something and delete threads posts that were in violation. It took help from an outside forum that is for sites like this who require help and writing letters to ensure that this will never happen again and to be approved again.
Since then we had no choice but to be a lot more strict, I asked the team to make sure we delete or edit posts, it's either that or the site?
Some would ask "Why not use a free forum", they are not free and also have ads which they receive and pays for it, they follow the same rules. Instead of having a free forum we've decided to do it ourselves and at the same time gives us a platform to donate to charity and offer competition prizes to you.
Most of you are not aware but this site has donated above £1000 to charity over the years, and that is without asking for donations from members. That money has been donated directly from the ads from this site. People using this site are not only getting a free forum, you are part of the site which enables us to donate and offer prizes.
When we have members who come here and do as they please, they risk the whole site, our community we've built over the years and the donations to charity would stop each month as well. We have a lot to lose if we lost the site because one person didn't want to follow the forum rules.
I don't know how else I can explain it, it's not the moderators fault. As a site we all need to work together and at the same time have a few good debates. We can't control what you write or have to say, we can only moderate posts or ban a user if they don't listen.
If you've been here a while, you'll know that we're open to discussions and how we can improve things all the time. Everyone wants different things and that's why we vote so the majority win.
A few things I want from this site, we never ask for donations to keep the site from running as its a monthly cycle and it would never work. The second is that we never stop our QPR charity donations, it's what I love most about this site and I maybe the only one. To say "Thank you" to all you members we offer prizes in free competitions because we understand without you and your support none of this is at all possible. It's taken a good few years but next season, we've purchased 2 tickets from the club (full price) to give away as match day prizes.
Hopefully this little blip we're having is here until the new season starts again and when we have something to play for. To many fans think this season is over, for me and many others it's a chance to see who we can keep and try to improve our style of play ready for the new season.
