  • Complete Rebuild Needed This Summer?

Have seen this mentioned a few times, but I dont think thats the case at all.
I've had a look through the squad and this appears to be the state of play for the summer:

Ok, admittedly the squad isnt the greatest, but there's potential there to build on what we already have with the addition of 2-4 players of a decent standard instead of stockpiling like we have in the past.
The core of what we have left are all very capable of performing under JFH as we've seen in recent weeks.
I'd retain Hill/Henry/Faurlin - all have the experience required and have been important under JFH
All guesswork on my part, but the amount freed up in wages this summer is scary. To think that sort of amount is being paid to players not even in our plans for next season. That's not including any % of wages being paid to Angella/Konchesky either. There's room to shift one or two out if needed (Gladwin/Toszer) with eyes on bringing in a better player.
Time to build on what we already have, in my opinion.

    Let's have your thoughts/opinions

I think you've gone quite low on the valuation of Phillips and I think we can get money for JET. You've also forgotten about Caulker from that list, who can definitely get us some money, no doubt if he's got a good enough agent, the move to liverpool will catalyse a prem move to someone like bournemouth or Watford (Deal involving Angella?)

Keep everyone on the left as you said excpet Toszer and sell mackie if we can get over 1mil for him only. Keep Faurlin/Henry (Faurlin on two years, Henry on one), Keep Hoilett for up to 25k or else get rid. Keep Hill as player/coach if possible. Add to the list on the left Brandon Comley as I think he's gonna come and make an impact potentially (or we loan him out again and bring in Huws). Add one striker, two wingers, a right back and a centre back for cover and we have a solid base.

Phillips has one year left on his contract, so what ive put is more than realistic.
We'd be extremely lucky to bag a fee for JET. Giving him away might be the only chance of getting shot due to the comfy wage he is on.
Knew I had forgotten someone - bloody Caulker. Think we might be stuck with him for another year as this season has been another disaster for him.
Would agree to moving on Toszer, even for a small fee of 200-500k.
Cant see Mackie attracting buyers, and isn't the worst to have as a squad player seeing as how he can play RW/RM or up top.

Even if we do shed many of the high earners I'm not sure it will free up vast fortunes for JFH to spend. Don't forget this will simply reduce the huge amount we are spending over what we are earning. Some deals could involve subsidising their wages to get a move, while players like Sandro and Fer could well go for considerably less than we paid for them. With the loss of Sky money and the reduction next year in parachute payments I doubt very much that Tony and co will be thinking "great, we've saved so much money, lets go out on a spending spree."
Agree we have the nucleus of a very solid Championship squad there but if we are serious about promotion - not sure of the owners intentions there at the moment - then we would need some magic dust. So far only player of real established quality in the attacking half is probably Chery, though there are one or two promising players who could make the grade.

I think Toszer should be moved on. He is clearly not up to it, can't believe we signed him on a two year deal.

Think it's time Hill and Henry got moved on or upstairs in Hill's case.

Faurlin, I'm not sure. Probably a one year deal.

We should get shot of Phillips, he just don't look bothered. If his deal is up next summer would take £4m.

Hoilett to go, that little #### won't take a lesser deal.

Would like to see Gladwin and Dougherty to get a run in the side.
              C'Mon You Supaaaa!!

Get over a million for Mackie? You cannot be serious?

I'm saying we get rid if an only if that offer comes in, otherwise we might as well keep him. It's extremely unlikely of course, I never said otherwise.

It depends on which formation and tactics JFH wants to deploy. This season, he's inherited what Ramsey provided and to be honest, I can't see another formation on the cards this season.

11 Players with contracts/loans expiring - I can see us renewing Henry & Faurlin, Hoilett I think will want more money and go elsewhere.
4 out on loan I think we're looking to move on.
The youngsters, I still don't feel are good enough to step up.

8 New signings for me - 2x CB, 1x RB, 1x LB, 1x CM (assuming we keep Karl & Ale), 1x LM, 1x Striker

Think the first team squad will look like:

                    GOALKEEPERS

                    9. Matt INGRAM
                    13. Joe LUMLEY
                    25. Alex SMITHIES

                    DEFENDERS

                    4. Grant HALL
                    5. Nedum ONUOHA
                    24. James PERCH
                    40. Jack ROBINSON

                    MIDFIELDERS

                    8. Tjarron CHERY
                    19. Abdenasser EL KHAYATI
                    18. Alejandro FAURLIN
                    20. Karl HENRY
                    21. Massimo LUONGO
                    12. Jamie MACKIE
                    7. Matt PHILLIPS
                    28. Daniel TOZSER

                    STRIKERS
                    33. Sebastian POLTER
                    9. Conor WASHINGTON

Need a brand new central midfield. What we have isn't up to it. Need to jog Phillips on. And need a specialist right back and another CB. Clint as player coach. And need to see Jimmy's two signings integrated into the team.

Disagree about Luongo. He's shown enough promise and would keep him.

Add a new CM to go with Lungo/Henry/Faurlin.

Phillips, Totzer, Nedum, Angella, Gladwin, Koncelsky, Traore, Green, Diakite, Furlong and Doughty should leave, IMO.
