Plenty of toot players have scored 20+ goals in the Championship over the years, no reason why Polter can't given the service.

Looking at how the top goal scorers in recent years, it would mean that if Polter hit 20+ he would in-fact be / most probably be the top scorer of the league... the following shows that on average 25 goals of recent years is enough to be the top scorer of the league. Andre Gray is on 22 currently and on target for 27-30 plus haul. The only thing here that makes me feel he could hit 25 goals is based on the fact that some players in this list are not prolific anymore or had a good season that year...
I think he can do 12-15 goals and, maybe, he might hit 16 / 17 but I cant imagine him tonking 20+. I think either Conor will begin to score and get more game time or expect to see us go for player with the potential ability to hit 20 this year e.g. Nakhi Wells.
2004–05 Nathan Ellington Wigan Athletic 24
2005–06 Marlon King Watford 21
2006–07 Jamie Cureton Colchester United 23
2007–08 Sylvan Ebanks-Blake Plymouth Argyle / Wolverhampton 23
2008–09 Sylvan Ebanks-Blake Wolverhampton Wanderers 25
2009–10 Peter Whittingham Cardiff City 20
Nicky Maynard Bristol City
2010–11 Danny Graham Watford 24
2011–12 Rickie Lambert Southampton 27
2012–13 Glenn Murray Crystal Palace 30
2013–14 Ross McCormack Leeds United 28
2014–15 Daryl Murphy Ipswich Town 27

If he keeps improving as rapidly as he has done so far, I firmly expect him to have a 20+ goal season for us assuming he is first choice. If Nicky Maynard can do it, so can our BFG"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. I think its a dangerous bet to bet against Polter notching 20 odd goals in the coming Championship seasons.
I think he is a fox in box type striker, who can develop into being in places at the right time like Charlie did.
What he also has on his side is that he is working with one of the best Premier league strikers there has been in JFH.
I have full faith in him personally to become our new hero.

I agree with you though, it is a risk to say he wont but I am just currently not sold on the fact that he will hit 20+ IMO but will get 12-15.
Its quite likely that QPR / JFH & Les, will buy another striker for competition and also because we are bit 'thin on the ground' in that department. (Expecting JET to leave...) This means that there is a very good chance that he wont be playing every week, especially if one of the other 2/3 striking options are smashing it. Therefore I don't think he will go on a 5-6 game scoring streak which is why I think he will hit around 15 goals tops. Playing weekly is key for any striker especially him...

20 goals is only 5 goals more than the top end of your prediction remember. If he gets to 15, then there is no reason why he can't smash 20 - In fact I'd say if he reaches 15, he will smash 20!
It's OK getting another striker in but he is going to need to be better than Polter for Polter not to start every week now, and he already has a head start with this season under his belt. He's currently keeping Washington out the team... There's more chance of Polter smashing it every week at this stage then any other potential striker coming in on the cheap and having to get used to his surroundings.
Polter has come on so drastically since JFH has come in, only a few months ago, that it'd be made to bet against him!

To again clarify, I think he will hit between 12-15 and, sure he may even hit 16 / 17 which isnt too far off. BUT he wont hit 20+, lets not be silly here and say 20 exact is the same. If he is going to hit 20+ then its going to be 23 onwards surely?

Not getting silly haha - 20 is only five more than 15... You're potentially talking another couple of goals in two matches to notch it up to 20. It's very much possible - We're talking about a few more goals here, which is easily done in the space of as little as two matches!
You've slightly confused me with the if he hits 20+ it will be 23 onwards bit, because 20+ means 20 goals and over no? but hey ho.
My bottom line is - If he can hit 15 goals with games to go next season, then there is no reason why he can't hit 20 in the same season as it's only five more goals.

I stand by it, he will hit between 12-15 and not 20+.
As for the Charlie Austin comment, Austin is only 2 years older than Polter... not sure where we are getting these ages from We are ;-) Ultimately if Polter was good enough he should have been playing with Chaz.

Do you not see though that Polter is developing and isn't the type of player to come in, hit the ground running and straight away joing Charlie Austin up front - As I've also said, his first time in a new country having to adapt etc. it was always going to take him some time.
Another thing to consider would be the formation we play with 1 up top. Polter or any striker we could of signed could of been 'good enough' but if we're deciding to play 1 up top, you have to choose between the strikers as to who is going to get the main role - Ultimately no-one was ever going to compete with Charlie.
You can't expect every player we sign to come in and hit the ground running, which is the main thing fans need to understand.Last edited by West London is Rss; 24-03-2016, 11:26 AM.

He offers more than just goals is what I feel, but I think he has his limits but could easily become a slightly better player over time. Hitting 20+ goals IMHO is not the players I see him being.

Of course better service should enhance a strikers chances of scoring, but Austin scored goals for fun when fit regardless of how the service was. It's a technique you either have or dont IMO.
Washington needs the ball in feet, or something to chase onto over a back line. Not a 100 yard ball which he is required to bring down and play others in.. Polter on the other hand can do this but for me is unlikely to make too many runs off the ball like Conor might.

I don't think any striker has limits personally - I think any striker can get to any target with hard work and learning.
Polter has the base for a v decent striker, which is why I put faith in him to hit 20 goals in the next season or so - If he stays fit.
