Look I really like the BFG, he gives it his all, wears the badge with pride and is exactly what we as a club / team require in a player right now. He will be massively useful next season as well.....

BUT he has his limits and he wont score more than 12-15 a season, he is not a Jordan Rhodes who is currently struggling to settle at Boro.
Value for money will allways be an issue for a club like QPR, I suppose.

Can we please get this on record from qpr4life

I can see you eating a massive humble pie in the next couple of years.
I'd also just like to point out that Rhodes is nearing 30 and is the finished article. Polter is 24, in his first season abroad and no-where near the finished article.

The point of this thread is not to compare them both on the present day, I don't think.

I feel those wishing to compare the two need to initially spell the BFG's surname correctly (not OP) ... It's POLTER (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Polter)

He actually wasn't playing that well before he transferred to 'Boro.

Firstly the thread is titled Polter V Rhodes, suggesting its a comparison, Secondly Rhodes was born in 1990 a year prior to Polter so I am not sure on your point here? And Lastly 12-15 goals for a striker of his level in the championship isn't bad, thats very good!! As I clearly said I like the guy and want him to do well I just cant see him scoring 20+ in the league for us personally. Sure i'll eat my wonderful Pie, but I am not quite sure what I am eating it for :S

Scored like 10 for Blackburn before moving across, not a bad return. Dont think he played much In Jan for them after pushing the move through...

              Been scoring 20+ every year.

It is a comparison but I don't think it means right now - Surely!! I took it that it wasn't because it's so ludicrous to think it is!

Sorry, I thought Rhodes was that age without researching it! He's just been around for what seems like forever at this level.
You'll be eating that pie when he scores 20 goals in the next season or so, that's why you'll be eating it!

I fully back JFH turning Polter into one of the best strikers in the league.

                  This!

I watch him play and think "he's pony". He's clumsy, his touch is more akin to park football than the Championship, he's slow and his hair is terrible.

But he's awkward, he's big and he has the heart of a lion. I'm happy for him to keep proving me wrong by whacking it in the back of the net!

Completely agree, except for the hair part. Looks rather fetching now that hes got rid of that stupid man bun.
Bloody love Polter though, very happy to have him play for us regularly.

A bit like that big Rusky down at the fakes......... But the BFG is delivering more.

We are close to April 1st are we not. Is there a magic mushroom cloud over W12 these days . Jordan Rhodes 162 goals in 292 apps. Did anyone see his finish at HQ this season? If the German gets the odd 62 I will be happy ..

I'm beginning to quite like him. As you say he has some good attributes and is willing to learn and practice.

To be fair as said twice, he will score 12-15 goals and thats a good return, but he isn't a Charlie Austin, Jordan Rhodes etc... He wont be a fox in the box scoring 20+ IMO. He doesnt look like that type of player.

I think Polter is much better than some people are making out. Whilst 'granny in a space suit' made me laugh, it's ridiculously over the top. If you watch the whole of Saturday's game (or even the extended highlights) you can see he makes intelligent moves, gets himself in good positions and can thread a killer pass (like the one where he set up Chery, who really should have scored). And his touch and control is improving all the time. And of course, he keeps scoring goals. You can't do that by accident.

To be fair to him, he has a goal every 206.5 minutes at the moment in a very stop start season. Rhodes meanwhile for the last 3 seasons going back has had a minutes per goal record of: 217.9 for Blackburn this season, 167.3 last season and 160.72 the season before. Add on to that the fact that 10% of Polter's 1239 minutes have been as a substitute, whereas in his last 3 seasons, Rhodes has had only 1.08% of his 9710 minutes (again, not including his time at middlesbrough) as a substitute, meaning he's got more time to actually integrate into games and influence games.

Give Polter the same amount of minutes as Rhodes got in his 45 match season where he managed 25 goals and on his current minutes per goal ratio - which I am certain will improve over time based on the fact that he's never played in England before, he's not really had a consistent run until recently and even then its been sort of stop start - and you'll find that Polter would total 19.54 goals. Not at all bad for someone who's never played English football before.
