An "early bird" means you get a discounted rate if you commit early. You should still have until the end of May (IMO) to renew your seat (albeit at a higher cost than the "early bird" of course). People are moaning because if they've not committed by the 2nd week in April, their seat will be up for grabs.
Not such how hard that is to understand tbf?
I will, personally, be renewing, but I do understand why some aren't overly impressed. The club have had to change their stance as they knew they farked up and nobody was renewing. You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

The annoying thing for me is its cheated some fans like myself of £30+ quid . I renewed 3 weeks ago with Zebra finance and there instalments end in the same month as when if you paid the £50 the club would want the balance interest free. Also why do the club get a finance company to do this when if they did it themselves they could profit. Not like it's a gamble. If you miss a payment your season ticket can be restricted.

I'm actually having a big issue with the tickets in that they want to charge me for the full adult price despite me being 21 until mid March next year. That means I'm actually only in the adult range for 4 matches tops in the league yet it's 200 quid extra. Not that I won't pay it worst comes to worst, but I'd obviously rather be in the fair range of price."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

Not sure on numbers sold initially, but think we all know that everyone leaves it till the last day possible to actually renew each year so wouldnt read too much into them figures.
