I was more impressed with Clive's questions than some of the answers, because the facts can not be gainsaid (ie the vast equity conversion necessary to take the hit). An awful lot of money was spent on a project which in financial terms has been nothing less than a complete meltdown. Yes, it is great that once the Barclays loan is repaid the club will be 'debt free', but simply looking at the books is a really sobering experience, and not suggestive that the people spending the money know what they are doing.
The flaw has consistently been in the quality of appointment made. Tony implies that the criticism is all in hindsight, but I'm afraid that is just not true. I don't know if anyone else would agree but I don't think his endorsement of Les was exactly ringing - I wonder if he wonders about that appointment, because it had significant implications, but there we go. On Lee Hoos the jury is out. Fans of clubs where he has served time hardly provide a ringing endorsement.
So unlike Kirill at one extremity and Kev at the other, I am neither despairing nor optimistic. I just hope for the best, because in reality that is all any of us can do.
