Lets deal with the facts. Because there will be a lot of claims from both sides that cannot be supported by evidence.
Firstly Doctors, did not have trouble from outside the EU getting into the UK. Were there hoops, yes there were and rightly so. They came into the Country under what is called the Tier 1 General Skilled Migration Visia, the only trouble is that the Tory Government closed it down in attempt to play the game of meeting its targets. Of course it was open to business folk to come in and no limits were put on their numbers, hence the Russian mafia influx. It also does not answer the question on numbers as 25% of registered overseas doctors did not come from the EU and only until very recently the majority overseas doctors did not come from the EU. Any sovereign country can set its own rules as the UK did and still does. If they have a job offer they apply for a visa and they have to pass the General Medical Councils PLAB test to assess their suitability to practice and if so they get their licence. This is not going to change, this does not apply however for EU doctors. As I understand the Governments position those working and settled here will remain. Personally I dont give a toss where the doctor comes from, because if you have knowledge of the profession and my family is medical, I want the best; some of the best and pioneering doctors in the NHS are not Brits. Many of the people in the UK who have had heart transplants do so because of the work of an Egyptian doctor who led the way and others followed in his wake and there are many more in other fields of medicine. So what ever your views are, don't get persuaded one way or the other by the scaremongering from both camps, look for the facts.
