Cantilevering the roofs yes is achievable, but the structural engineering would be pretty heavy to say the least.
Plus you'd have to regrade the seating tiers, increase the width of the steps, new coporate facilities etc etc. Building Control has changed since the old ground was redeveloped which could be a pain in the #### when your fighting for every square inch of space. Planning laws on height restictions and space parameter regulations would have to form part of a very detailed design which would cost £££££££.
The question I always asked myself when it comes to this subject is....if we redeveloped just one stand i.e The Ellerslie Road how can we justify the the other 3 sides of the ground having a severe level of discomfort by comparison?
The whole thing or at least 3 sides would need to be redeveloped in my view.

If we do get back to prem and move, why wouldn't or couldn't we return to those mid 70's crowds. No reason why we couldn't nestle in behind Chelsea, as they certainly have less than WHU etc, just watch their crowds dwindle if they were in WHU 's position !

We are a small London club that is the truth but we are a proper football team where 10-15% of our support follow our team away.

Yeah Chelsea's crowds may fall to around 35000 buts that about it, just because they hit a trough in the 80s doesn't mean its going to happen again same with Newcastle. We hit a peak in the 70s of 25000 - that was nearly 2 generations ago watching the greatest QPR team there will ever be.

First season in the premiership it would be 25,000, with sustained presence it could reach 30,000.
Some live in the past and admittedly we had great support 75/76 season but football has changed. Also, You cannot compare to the late eighties/early nineties. its now all about media exposure. Fulham started well behind us, when we were getting 14,000, they were getting 5-6,000, so really anything is acheiveable. I want to walk around the ground/nearby areas and not see kids wearing Liverpool and Man Utd tops and that day will come, but it will take time.ALL BEST BANTER AND ALL THE LATEST FROM QPR.

My sons best mate (15) has a season ticket at Fulham, because his dad is a bit of an old Fulham fan, and the season tickets are cheap... and he gets to watch Premier League Football in London every week.
Which is fair enough, but he lives in Colchester.
If it's just about home gates, then Fulham are "bigger" (whatever that means) than Palace, Charlton, QPR, Millwall etc.. But I tend to judge that on other stuff too. Like how many they take away, how many they'd get if they were half way down the 2nd/3rd division.

Spurs will wipe the floor with Chelsea's attendances once the new stadium is built.
It's only in the past 10 years that Palace and Charlton have overtaken us in the attendance stakes. Palace due to Prem yo-yoing and Charlton due to Prem football and a spanking new facilities and decent ticket marketing.
Palace have a massive catchment area if they were ever to get close to having a competent administration allied to a PL team. Much as I dislike the guy, someone like Keynon would make a mint down in SE25.
West Ham have far more potential than Chelsea but need a new ground to kick that on.
We're on a par with Palace, Fulham and Charlton. Much as it has always been.
IMO - Order would run something along the lines of....
Arsenal
Tottenham
then massive (15k) gap
Chelsea
West Ham
another big (10k) gap
Fulham
Palace
QPR
Charlton
gap
Millwall
gap
Brentford
Orient
Wimbledon
Barnet
