  • End of an Era

Today I feel that we are building a proper club from the grass roots upwards at last.

However for the last 5 yrs we have been a top championship club or lower premier league team
In my opinion I feel that we are no longer at this standard any more.

We have become a less powerful force.....this is a view that is also shared by many of my friends and colleagues ....

Will we ever get back to the Premier league with the standard of players we now have.

I know that we are now a better club ...but I feel we will not return for 5 yrs if ever.

    Thoughts please
    The General.

Agreed with the first line, disagree with the rest of it though mate. I'm certain that we will be back up very soon, this time with this better structure in place.

Hmmmmm hard one to predict as on paper we seem to be bucking the trend in respect of buying over the hill chumps wanting a last big pay day but then there's always a chance that these lower league players won't be able to cut the mustard in a higher division.. I'd like to think we will make a reasonable stab of promotion within the next few years but against teams with plenty of dough it will be hard... Can't see us in the PL within 3 years that's for sure... anyone who says that they are happy in this league are having a laugh as the standard of football in general is terrible... R's have been one of, if not THE most boring teams to watch this season that's for sure...:(

Naz do you see everything that our club does lately through rose coloured glasses...Fer Green etc etc

The standard of player that we now have is so below the standard we did have..even if they are more committed.

I understand that you love the club ..but perhaps an unbiased view once in a while would be nice ...o

Thing is though bar Austin the players who have left were vastly overrated , overpaid and frankly let us done on countless occasions

I would say the quality of player now is lower for sure. I think sadly the quality players no longer played for us as well as they could have and most of the time on the pitch effort and intensity comes first when winning matches.

We have at leas 10 better teams than us in this division at the moment

It's a huge shock that we are only now Brentford standard......it's a joke really

We're down 3 on big names.. Wouldn't say down on quality.

What have Fer, Sandro and Caulker done for the Club?

I'm much happier them not at LR. Hopefully some of the others will get a chance now.

As I said ..I do feel that the club are now going in the right direction but I have never felt for over 5 yrs that we are a mid table championship side.....which is now exactly what we are

Even Sheffield Wed and Forest are better than us.....we have fallen a long long way at present...unrecoverable possibly

C'mon mate. Of course we can recover, might take a bit of time but I think we can start doing things properly. Got a new found confidence with JFH. I think he will turn it around.

Ultimately we only had a few really quality players who would put a consistent effort in last season in the form of Green, Chaz, Matty, Fer, Joey, Sandro (when played and available). Of those, the only player who left in the summer was Joey. Then, the only player who kept up their form from last season was Charlie. Sandro showed in sparks his quality, same with Matty, who I think has been showing more consistency in his more recent games. Green has been awful. Now, the only player of those 5 left in the first team picture is Matty.

Onuoha has taken a new role and led the team well, we've found a real gem in the form of Hall and Perchy has been getting more consistent and solid as the weeks go by. We've got a keeper who looks classy and the only weakness is left back, where we are getting Kpekawa and Robinson back into the picture.

In midfield, We've brought in Luongo, young and starting to really flourish. Alongside him, we've got Ale who is a million times the player Joey was when fit and who will give his all every single day of the week. We've got Hoilett finally showing us some consistency and quality in his performances and the prediscussed Phillips. We have now Chery - who can now perhaps be more of a success, despite his inconsistencies at the start of the season - and Nasser - Someone the manager knows well and despite coming in from a lower league, has the apparent attributes to make the step up hopefully.

Up front, we have a Polter - despite his obvious shortcomings outside the box, he's shown his deadliness in the box while also showing a hunger to score consistently and an ability to do so - while alongside him potentially we have Washington - who in his cameos so far has shown energy, touch, vision and pace and could be a huge asset.

Out on loan and likely to return and play, we have Gladwin, someone who could be good in the future, alongside a few other talented young players who could make the cut in the near future such as Doughty, Furlong, Comley who have all shown good potential - certainly that to be good players at this level, with Furlong having the mental attributes of leadership to be even better imo.

Furthermore, our squad is now almost completely rid of bad eggs bar Traore and we have lots of strong characters in the background such as Hill, Mackie, Kelvin (to a degree) and with only two over 30's, we have a very young squad as well. It's only a matter of time really before the positivity and fighting spirit we're after comes back and alongside that, we have players here we can instil with the QPR bug who can one day fight for the shirt.

At the start of the season, we had on paper one of the best squads this league has ever seen imo. ON PAPER only though. They didn't meld unfortunately. Now, we have a solid squad, not super special but with good characters throughout. More importantly though is that now we potentially have youth, energy and desire throughout all our players. We haven't had that in years. Instead of calling this the end of the high standards at the club, lets call this the return of the underdogs that Neil Warnock once made us. The team that shouldn't, but will succeed.

Yes probably feeling a bit dispondant this evening ...I lack the excitement that I had in going to loftus road on a Saturday
At present not getting the buzz at present but m sure it will return..
I still believe it will take 3-5 years before we are true promotion contenders
Look at Burnley and Hull they are going up again I reckon ...Correct decisions we used to be at that standard 6 months ago

Leicester, Burnley and Bournemouth have also all been through a lot of missery, but like them we now seem to have found a path which really doesn´t have to be that expensive. It´s all about finding the ethos and way of playing which will bring us forward.

What it shows that in 4.5 years of Fernandes as Chairman we are in a worse state now than when he bought us and twice we had the premier league ticket and blew it. When you think of the money wasted in that time it is truly embarrasing that we find ourselves shopping at Burton Albion.
