Never doubted him as a player, but for whatever reason, set up, tactics, players around him etc. For QPR he did not do a thing.

Carroll is just one of these players who divides opinion massively. I think he is lightweight and was awful for us. He did not influence the game in any way. Always seemed to pass sideways or backwards. This is fine if you have top players round you who will influence the game but not our squad

I understand why so many disliked Carroll. We'd just had Taarabt two years before doing unimaginable stuff on the ball and Shaun Derry doing everything to get the ball back. If a player wasn't so obviously involved, I can imagine a lot of criticism. But Carroll was always making himself available for a pass, always looked to play the ball and was very tidy on it. If you recall, the first match he was unavailable for us that season was away at Millwall, where we lost our clean sheet run and also started the drop from the top. Whatever it was that he brought to the team, we definitely missed it. We conceded 18 goals in the 23 games he started and 26 in the other 23 games that season. Whatever it was that he brought to the side, it certainly helped IMO."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

Shame because I can see technical ability in him, but he's no kid anymore and he's so flimsy and can barely win a header or a tackle and for a central midfielder that is necessity.
