That is actually the reason why I think Green dropped his level so dramatically. He never thought Smithies would threaten his position.

What i think would be really interesting is to see whether those that are against this signing are in the "happy clappers" or the "realists" camp?

We change our strikers every 12months same with our midfield and defence so not sure what difference it makes if one of the two is unhappy and he wants out. Keep the better one shift the poorer one

All about competition for places Ingham needs to come in and back himself Smithies in response needs to be on his toes and error free to keep his place. Win win in my book

Supposedly he prefers us, closer to home.

First choice keeper should be amazing, second choice should be rubbish as they know their standard and wont want to leave and third choice should be a young keeper with no aspirations of playing.

Smithies and Lumley isnt a perfect Combo, not in QPR or the managers eyes. Smithies is a good 1st choice / second choice keeper. Lumley isnt good enough yet or wont be and therefore we are looking for another prospect like this chap from Wycomb.
I like the way you put this.
For me the keepers should provide competition for each other.
Smithies and Ingram competing for the starting place and for Lumley the learning process continues .

Makes sense to me to get another keeper in,especially one who has lots of potential as ingram supposedly has. If/when ffp does hit we would have good strength in that position.

I don't think that is the correct name for the groups. Why the 'realists'? I would say happy clappers and doom mongers. Some of the happy clappers may believe they are realists you know.

Happy clappers are the sort of people who don't go around telling everyone they're just being realistic because we know we are. "realists" have to constantly let you know that they're realists to justify their statements. They're like hipsters and californian vegans.
