Not a fan of stockpiling young keepers./

It's a position, like CB, where you improve with age and your reading of the game. Have one around to learn and maybe make the grade, fine. Why are we signing young CBs & keepers but old fullbacks? Where is the logic?

We've already got a decent young keeper - unless this guy is the real deal we are better off going for the finish article, eg. Speroni as suggested a couple pages back.

I've seen Ingram play a few times Hits, very much the same level of ability as Bentley imo.

I've said it's silly to have two goalkeepers of the same ability who both want to play at the top. Why? Because only one will play 95% of the games unless an injury occurs. Therefore, the one who's not playing will want to move on sharpish. You don't swap keepers like strikers as you seem to think! Go through the squads of football league clubs and look at the goalkeeper position. You might be surprised to see one and only one playing every week.
But you're basically trying to find a keeper not as good as your first choice, I'm sorry I dont get it.

Ingram would be a good addition and should push for the number 1 spot.

McCarthy was here a year and played 3 games. One of Smithies or Ingram will be gone in 12 months in my opinion.

3 good young keepers and we'd have got rid of two with them hardly having a kick.
Well Macca had a get out clause, so tbh we was screwed from day 1.

Building a squad is a continuous, never ending process. I don't mind if we keep the better one and let the other one go. Both relatively young and we may have our first choice goalkeeper solved for several years. Isn't that the most important thing?

I just feel signing someone like Speroni would be more beneficial to the club. Speroni is capable at this level should he be needed, he'd bring on Smithies and Lumley and it would enable Smithies to get better by playing every week.

Now we have two keepers who want to play every week, one will be unhappy and want out. In a year we'll be looking for another keeper.

Ingram could be brilliant, that's not the point though. The point is in my opinion, we're going the wrong way about it. Some will agree, some like yourself won't but that's football.

Yeah it is but how many young keepers are we going to keep signing and letting go a year later, without being given a chance?

Yeah that didn't help but he wanted out regardless.

Pointless signing if you have Smithies and Lumley.

Go and get a RB or LB...you know....an area where we need to strengthen!

Better to have 1 good, solid established keeper and someone who can learn from him than two youngsters whose careers could go in any direction. Worrying that the board can't understand something so basic.

How many clubs have good keepers aged under 25? Excluding standout cases like Butland, De Gea, Courtois etc.

My goodness I think people are slightly missing the point.. ill reiterate...

We are buying him cheap.. JFH works out which one is the better and plays him... if the other keeper is unhappy we sell him (at the price we got them probably at a profit)

Maybe JFH isnt convinced by Smithies (maybe why he didnt replace Green on his arrival) and so JFH has bought the keeper HE wants..

Or there is the possibility that he will, you know, relish the competition and it'll make him push himself harder to be better?

So we shouldn't sign him because he's too good and too young for us!
