remember running on the pitch from the paddock at the end and being charged by the police, but no one seemed to care - real party atmosphere

Sorry "mate" - we played that season on the Astro.

The last game on the turf was a 5-0 win against Cambridge I think. (May have been Cov). Clive Allen debut hat-trick?

Edit: I was nearly right. Last game on the turf was a 5-0 against Cambridge.
Clive Allen's debut was two seasons before - and was a hat-trick in a 5-1 against Cov.

Must have used blow-torches then... it was plastic.
First game on Omniturf... v Luton, August 1981.

We reached the FA Cup final that year, and went up the season after.

The game against wolves was on omniturf.
Some of the games that season are on video classics.

Yeah, I was there and went on to the plastic pitch afterwards and managed to pull some tufts of it up, which I still have to this day.
