If the club had said no to the offer from Southampton, we would have had one unhappy striker and that wouldn't have done anybody any good.
The f##k up was made by Harry and Beard long before Les was pulling the strings, by waiting until December 2014 when his stock was high, rather than after the playoff win to offer him a new deal.

The fact he wanted to go there and Saints were prepared to pay now, think actually worked in our favour. As great as he was, one decent striker doesnt make a team and he wasnt going to get us promoted on his own. So getting any fee now was worth it imho

Normally the club would have to accept a bid in order for the player to have talks about moving there. If we turn down Southampton's 4 mil and then Newcastle come in with an offer of £6 mil, Austin could just say, no thanks, i dont want to go there, so il just sit it out for another 4 months then get my move to Southampton.

Its all very easy to sl@g the board in hindsight. A the time when we turned down the 12 mil bid, i was happy and thought it was the right move.

its not sL@gging the board in Hindsight ..i am one of the more "Happy Clappy" members of this forum but i really feel the club cocked this one up! No one really thought we would go straight back up even the club in the summer that was not the Brief..it was only that we didn't sell the crown jewels that the brief changed. so why in the summer was not £12 an acceptable price? And even if we did go up would Austen have stayed? i think the fact that the club did not sort out his contract earlier and let it get into this situation is the problem

As for why not selling, I think its hilarious that we are all now pissed off. Damned if you damned if you dont comes to mind....
Had the offer bern made in July and a decent striker been signed, or Remy staying, he would probably have signed it.
