Championship players get sold for a lot more than that who have never played in the top flight, surely other clubs have bided more than 4 million?

There wont be a bidding war mate. If anyone else is interested they will just bid the £4m we have agreed with Southampton and then battle it out with them in terms of wages. We havent got much to bargain with here as we lose him for free in the summer and our season is already pretty much done

It's relevant because Leicester were always going to be a better side under Ranieri than they were under Pearson, giving Austin a better chance to get into the England team and therefore making them an inticing option for him. He would've gone there had the offer been accepted, no doubt about it.

I think we all would've taken £12million with a year left on his contract as opposed to £4million with 6 months left.

It's as if he has a minimum fee, what is this club playing at?

Any other club would've had a bid going, why is that to hard for our club to do?

Maybe we're minted, don't need the cash.

Austin made it clear he didn't want to go to a struggling club or very far up north so i very much doubt Leicester was ever seriously on the cards whether we accepted the offer or not...

Again, they weren't going to struggle under Ranieri, the man has never managed a relegation threatened side in his life (not counting Atheltico Madrid, which had nothing to do with him). Also, I wouldn't really call the East Midlands "far up North".

Nope, read the threads again. 15mil was even talked of as a "bit low". Maybe not by you, but the general consensus.

Anyway, hindsight is a wonderful thing. We're not getting more than 4mil, good luck to Charlie. Time to move on.

Well that's a bargain for soton.

Could of got 6 mill I feel.

4 mill will be lucky to buy Washington from Peterborough for that.B

However it's 4 mill now or nothing in the summer so don't see what choice the club had tbf.

Let's just hope and pray we have someone lined up and quickly. Think the club knows the fans will expect a replacement of some sort and gut feeling is we will have someone lined up.

OK, well I'm not posting for anyone else.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. So is common sense - shame this god forsaken football club doesn't have any of it.

Someone would've offered more than 4 million for a player like Charlie, it's like we didn't even try.

or alternatively, my recollection.... tipped for relegation east midlands side leicester, having just appointed claudio 'the tinkerman' ranieri, fresh from his guiding former european champions greece to 2 defeats against the faroe islands during a disastrous euro 2016 qualifying campaign made an offer. at that time they were 6th favourites for relegation at 11/4 sandwiched inbetween villa (5/2) and newcastle (9/2).

our attacker, who seemed to make it known that he wanted a club in the south of england who were unlikely to be involved in a relegation battle, was never likely to want to go there.

i get that you have an axe to grind about more-or-less anything that the club does, but some realism would help.
