4mil if it's upfront is better then Nothing in four months. Million pound a month don't sound too bad. Yes less then what we were offered in summer but none of bids were acceptable

Think we have done ok as him leaving for nothing would have Been robbery

Yea I don't doubt Austin wanting to stay until the summer, but the board have obviously taken the decision to pocket £4m rather than let him go for free in June. The gamble we took to keep him and hope he fired us back up hasn't paid off so they're cashing in whilst they can.

matty, don't be coming here and talking sense!

just because no one would stump up more than £12m in the summer (and even then, it was from a club that the player probably would have said no to) doesn't mean that they wouldn't bid £10-15m for him when he only has 4 months of playing time left on his contract.

£4m is about as good as we can hope for. i guess the rumours of washington coming inwards for cash plus gladwin might have some substance to them now...

Do Soton have a striker we can get in return? In addition to cash, I mean?

Good Luck to Charlie and his young Family if this piece of info is true.

Let's hope this start a bidding war.

2nd in the table Leicester offered that for him, and we turned it down. No reason why Austin would've said no to them when he's accepted Southampton, pretty obvious that they weren't going to be in another relegation battle with Ranieri in charge.

It's amazing that a player in a position that every club wants, and we can't get a decent fee for. If this don't start a bidding war and he get's sold then something has to be wrong somewhere?

They werent 2nd at the time (not sure why league placing is relevant) but this board would have been UP IN ARMS had he gone for 12mil, lets not kid ourselves.
