Was thinking that too. knowing our luck, 1st game in Feb Smithies will get crocked and we will have to call some under 18s keeper up who's ar$e hole will be going like a wacker plate having to play in front of more than 12 people.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

I would not rush out and get a keeper in Jan. Loads of keepers in prem sitting on bench we could nab to sit on ours then do our homework and line up a decent long term keeper in summer window

            • Find this all very stupid and again makes the club look stupid !!.

Green has had some terrible abuse on this site and some people even make that person rather than just talk about his football ability. This seems very common now on football forums and I find it shocking how people write stuff about people they do not know.... maybe only basis is that person earns more money than they can even dream of ?
However back to football business, Green for me has been one of the better players over the last few years and I certainly feel he has not come across as causing trouble. Looking at his career history he seems he has a level and it is mid prem down to top of the championships. His foot work isn't great and he makes the occasional error but at the same time he pulls off some fantastic saves.

As for his contract! Well our much abused owners who seem to be guilty of wasting lots of their own money(not sure why this is a problem) and then writing off the club debts have offered a much wanted at the time goalie a deal which if he was picked regularly and played lots of games he would be REWARDED an extension. Now no point getting upset if that promise of reward for good service (he does not force us to pick him week in week out) is now taken up.

So for me...fair play to Rob Green. One of the good guys at QPR IMO.

              • Nothing personal against Rob Green. I just think he makes more mistakes than he needs to, especially at this level. Is on massive wages for this level, and is not a long term option. Lets blood our new young keeper and start building for the future.

Very nice sentiments Fozie but all success full foot ball cubs are run ruthlessly

                  • This deal just makes it all the more stupid that we didn't bench him weeks ago. Might have made sense keeping him on for the second half of the season as backup if we could get 10+ games out of him without it costing us £5m (his annual salary). Now, with just 5 games to play with, it's not worth it. Odd that it'll take a contract spat to finally get him dropped.

Maybe Smithies has been just awful in training.

I think our directors have more of say then we realise with selection. Players on huge money are getting the nod atm.

Ie green and Fer seem to be able to play regularly even though they are out of form.

Wycombe have their goal keeper coach on the bench tomorrow.

You must be right. Managers job is actually very easy: you must have control (this I read from a book by Alex Ferguson), choose the best players and the most suitable formation for them. We all know no manager would choose Green and Fer voluntarily when most in form players have been McCarthy, Harriman and Diakite.
