what do you think about us reverting to a sweeper system, didnt we use it during the paul parker danny maddix supermac era? it might free up the defensive midfield for a more attacking one. just a thought

as Matty says, why would we change the back four now they have steadied the ship back their.
Also agree with Jeems - The sweeper system is outdated now. The game has moved on from then and we would be conceding goals where they are playing everybody on all the time.

agree, interpretation of offside and keeper evolution killed off the role. Plus all defenders should be able to distribute the ball and initiate stuff, back in the day that was yer man's job, he started moves off.
In modern terms the guy in the middle of a back five is sometimes called a sweeper / libero, but it's just a label for the bloke in the middle when you go five at the back.
In the 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond) the 1 in front of the back four can operate as kind of sweeper, disrupting and distributing. But it still isn't the same thing as your old school sweeper...

It will evolve to the sweeper keeper, Manuel Neuer prime example.
A system from a bygone era. With the new offside rules and the pace of the modern game, having a player sat behind your 2 centre backs is just basically gonna leave you playing the oppositions attackers onside and susceptible to being sprung on the the break constantly.

Sweeper is something a Sunday league teams / Big Dave at the back who cant run for sh1t no more may still use, but I am not sure its for modern top flight league clubs.
But im with Matty, wouldnt change the current setup at the back.. Clean sheet central at the moment.
