I think we will know at the end of the season: if we are not higher in the table than we are now, then it will have backfired on the club. Don't get me wrong, I know that a promising manager like JFH can take us into the play-offs. But you must agree that in the recent weeks it has already started to look like Warnock was taking us into play-offs.

But what I'm saying is why dwell on that? Neil has left the building now and Jimmy is the new manager, so why not just focus on getting behind the new man? Warnock was only every going to be another short-term fix.

Surely there's more important things for us to worry about now like xmas pressies, parties and p*ss ups. Can we have a thread on that?

Wouldn't sticking with Warnock being the equivalent of getting the old experienced players in like before? So not sure why some are desperate for a short term fix of a manager when he could do a job (and maybe in the near future ie this season better than a younger manager) but he would need replacing soon. I would take short term mediocrity if it meant long term gain ie Southampton model which a lot on here bang on about wasn't created in an instant.

End of the season? Got to give him a few transfer windows. Balance the squad out.

I'm expecting a better style of football almost instantly.. Not necessarily results. Hopefully we will see some of this exciting and attacking football LF promised us. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in charge.

I cannot think of a more ridiculous way to plan for the future of the club, yet several people seem happy to suggest it and will no doubt be the first to heap more unwarranted criticism on the board, should things not immediately turn to gold.

In fact, I'm getting so fed up with the constant trolling by some, that I wonder why they bother coming on here. Yes, the owners have made mistakes, big ones. So have several managers. So have several players. Not sure how incessantly banging on about the same thing is going to be in any way productive.

As for JFH, how people cannot be excited about potentially the best managerial appointment of ours this century, is simply staggering.

I think everyone should nail their colours to the mast as to how much time they'd give him. then come time for the poisonous atmosphere to return, we can pull this thread back out and serve humble pie accordingly.

my take is that the fella should get until march at least, even if we fall into the relegation zone (a very very low probability I hope!). and if we are not in the relegation zone, then we give him until next August - even if that means we are 21st. again, I reckon this will be a low probability. I predict we'll knock about anywhere from 5th to 15th, with JFH at the helm

No way was he the best man for the job IMO so he has to hit the ground running for me.I reckon Pearson and a few others would have got us in the play-offs with our squad, so anything less will be a failure. I really hope he succeeds or we will end up with Chris Powell next.

Yes, for a number of reasons: His age; his comments regarding the position; his old-skool 'philosophy' being out of step with the club's / JFH's 'philosophy'; not being the DoF's ideal choice.

Not necessarily reasons I completely share, but I'm certain the ones decided by the club.

I think that any manager who couldn't get us into a play off spot at least, with the squad we had available, would have to be regarded as a huge failure.

But we sacked CR weeks ago, so the issue was mainly addressed.

Be very surprised if we finished outside of the top 6 now.

Personally just want a manager for longer than 2 seasons. Impossible to build a decent squad and infrastructure on anything less (IMO).

Spot on Spider,Pearson was the only man for the job in my book if NW really didn't want it,i am gutted about this appointment and what worries me is this is another Les Ferdinand's appointment, and look what happened to his last recommendation in CR !!! The sooner Ferdinand is out of the club and TF and BA stop listening to him the better!!
I just cannot get myself excited by JFH at all and just when I was believing again when NW took the reins, dark day today !!

I have a feeling that if asked he would have seen the job through to the end of term. And that the players would have supported that.

Then again, I can't prove it....
