  • The mysterious godlike status of Alejandro Faurlin

It's a very peculiar cult this.
First there was the random clapping while he was out with a knee injury. Out with a knee injury I must repeat, not dead.
Then the half-time North Korean-style propaganda rallies, club officials escorting him out on to the pitch and interviewing him, hoping the spectacle would make us all forget the 45 minutes of #### we'd just witnessed.
Now we hear chants of 'Faurlin, Faurlin' when he's on the bench as though he is our miraculous saviour, when Sandro and Fer are clearly vastly superior players and should be starting week in week out. I'd also say Luongo is a better midfielder, significantly so.

Now don't get me wrong, I like the bloke, but does he deserve all the adulation?
    Let's actually examine his career:
2009/10 - fairly good, although inconsistent.
    2010/11 - excellent.
    Since then - injured.
    Does this warrant godlike status?
I know the lad's been very unlucky with injuries and yes his heart's in the right place, but he's clearly not the answer to our problems. It's controversial but I thought it was a mad decision to renew his contract.
From what I've seen of him this season he's looked weak and lacking in fitness. He also made some terrible errors against Rotherham which seem to have been completely forgotten about. Imagine if Konchesky had made those errors - there'd have been calls for his public execution.

I don't mean to pick on Faurlin - but what exactly is behind this peculiar obsession? And just to emphasise it's not really his fault - it's the fans. Some supporters seem to genuinely believe he is better than Iniesta.

Two bad injuries have hampered his career. Luongo not a patch on ale ,faurlin when fit was easily one of our better players who now will hopefully shut the minority .on his day he's untouchable!

Exactly, everyone who's played with him consistently has given him direct praise that you don't see for other players. He has an incredible ability on the ball and he reads the play so well. I don't get how people don't see this.
"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

That's exactly it. He's also a hell of a nice guy who loves the club. Yes he has been poor so far this season, but he has/had the ability to control and change games. Part of the fascination with Ale is that we all hope he will produce the magic he has previously.

You won't get much abuse mate.. I make you right.. The season under warnock he was fantastic, probably as important as Taarabt. But the praise is well over the top. Most rangers fans are easy to please, all they have to do is Kiss the badge and say they love the club and the fans are in there pockets.. #### me if someone was paying me £25-30k a week I would say I loved it and everyone involved.. The same with Mackie and Hill.. They did the job for us and it should have been left there. Think this should be the last season they are there.
            C'Mon You Supaaaa!!

I got immense abuse granted only from two or three posters when I put a similar thread up. We have some interesting fans. I remember Simon Barker and in his early days Clive Wilson getting it too and both of them in a different universe to Faulin.

Simon Barker played like a headless chicken in most games but Clive Wilson was a very classy full back..Faulin looks unspectacular but provides quick simple passing that some of our current players lack.

Decent enough player, but not amazing. Admire his attitude and determination though.

Very odd thread. Yes, Ale is liked by the fans (me included) but I fail to see this "God like status" talked about? Hardly thread after thread started in his honour.

He obviously isn't the player he once was, after 3 ACLs that is hardly surprising. It's pretty incredible he si still playing at all after such injuries tbh, massively admire his attitude and determination.

That said though, he is hardly a carthorse now, I mean ffs he was (by all accounts) our best player vs Hull! Terrible game vs Fulham (along wit every single other player so not saying much). Really don't think he warrants a thread started to dig him out, he is far from our worst player. Christ, he isn't even anywhere near our worst CM, let alone player.

Still has enough about him to be in & around the 1st team for sure - would have him above Henry & Toszer all day long.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

I have always liked Ale, seems a nice guy. Playing he is a frustrating player for me, one minute he makes a cruicial tackle the next he passes the ball to the opposition, next he will spray a pass 60 plus metres to someones feet the next he fouls someone for no apparent reason in a dangerous area (on the pitch that is).

Had a fantastic season when we were champions but so did most players. I feel he given this God like status because of his injuries strangely. If he hadn't had them he would have almost certainly be at another club.

Idols come in lots of shapes and forms and QPR have had numerous ones over the years, from the days of Bowles, Thomas and Francis to todays Faurlins and Hills

                      Good thread though
I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

Spot on Matty. I think the OP is trying to make something out of nothing. There is not, and never has been, a 'peculiar cult' about Ale. People quite naturally have a huge amount of admiration for him, for his determination to come back from three career threatening injuries and his obvious love of the club. And, as others have said, it's still possible he will come back to his majestic best - or make that 'excellent' best, as the OP put it. Never mind peculiar cult, this is a peculiar thread.

People are complaining about application and basic skills when it comes to QPR players, and yet they chose to dig Faurlin out. You couldnt make it up.
