  • Mystified by club strategy

So IF we keep our current players, our midfield and attack would be incredibly strong for this league.

    Something like:

    --------Austin-------

    ---Chery---Fer---Phillips

    ---Faurlin/ Luongo--Sandro

But then it all goes Pete Tong.

Sure, Onouho is not bad, and if he gets fit Suk Young is OK. Perch might not be a world beater but we might get away with him (Simpson and Braders Orr were not exactly world beaters either).

However you dress it up, though, we are crying out for a really commanding centre back.

What I don't understand is this: attack-wise we prob have a team worth knocking on for £40m - in other words, a team that could challenge for promotion. Yet as things stand we will really struggle to go up because of the glaring weakness at the back. A couple of million quid - eg on the Swansea reserve - could transform our chances.

I am not, btw, one of these fans who always says "spend, spend, spend". If we absolutely can't afford it, fair enough - but then we might as well give up on promotion and sell a lot of those expensive assets, make sure we have just enough to stay up and develop some youngsters. But to have top quality Championship offensive players and pretty ropey defensive players makes no sense.

Ramsay acknowledged the problem early in the close season so the club are clearly aware of the issue. So why haven't they done much about it? Sure, they went after Ream but that deal was clearly dead a week ago. Was there no plan b? Why are we several games into the season and this has not been addressed? The club can hardly claim they have been hit by an unexpected departure or injury, or be surprised that we have let in two goals in each of our first three matches. Answers on a postcard, please.

Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

As you say, the manager has already identified the defence as an area in need of strengthening and has made efforts, albeit unsuccessful ones so far, to remedy the problem.
I imagine when we make enquires about players their agents eyes light up as they probably still see us as some sort of cash cow who will pay over the top in fees and wages.
It's going to take a while for the tag we've had as a splash the cash club to change, so given, as you say, the rest of the team is in pretty good shape, we really should just bite the bullet and go all out for a decent cb.
If we have to pay over the top so be it. Sometimes it's not about the going rate and what other clubs would pay for someone, more about our own circumstances and how much it could really mean to us.
Having said all that, none of us know what's going on behind the scenes so here's hoping.

I got slated by 99% of the #####s on here for saying that Mick McCarthy was the ONLY manager for us after the last 5 years of f*ck ups and hundreds of millions of debt that we have been lumbered with for the long term. We spew millions at every opportunity. In this transfer window, even though we have cut down on the ridiculous signings, we are still spending loads.

Mick McCarthy is a proper manager!

If we had Mick McCarthy here we would never have spent any of those hundreds of millions and would have playoff football on tap and those hundreds of millions could have set up the best youth academy in this country which in 3 or 4 years would have made us almost self sufficient in providing players for the squad and would have been a nice earner in the future.

These were his transfer dealings last season

They made the playoffs and lost to Norwich by 1 goal over 2 legs. Stunning!

These are the transfers for this season

          Ipswich Town Transfers
          Summer 2015
          COMPLETED IN FROM FEE
          Dylan Connolly Shelbourne Undisclosed
          Ryan Fraser Bournemouth Loan
          Ainsley Maitland-Niles Arsenal Loan
          Brett Pitman Bournemouth Free
          Luke Varney Unassigned Players Free

          COMPLETED OUT TO FEE
          Paul Anderson Unassigned Players Released
          Matthew Clarke Portsmouth Loan
          Tyrone Mings Bournemouth £8.0m

I expect them to be top 6 again or very very close.

But the fools on here would rather call for Paul Clement or Mark Warburton.

As long as we keep hiring Mickey Mouse managers who all want to play championship manager with our club, we will always have this cycle of spewing money followed by failure.

It could be stopped at anytime by bringing in a PROPER manager.

I will wait until later in the season before I start to serve up the humble pie

Which part of my statement do you disagree with?

I want the best for my club, I am sick of these Mickey Mouse managers coming in, spunkin the millions and then f***ing off.

I want us to produce our own players, I want playoff football and eventually I want us to get promoted as a strong unit. (something that we have not been for many many years)
