I said at the time I only needed a break, which is what I've had now and am happy to be back, feeling refreshed.
Fortunately it's coinciding with an upturn in fortunes on the pitch too - a loss, draw, then a win in the league (+ a good cup win) is a sign of a team gradually coming together, and I can very happily live with that.
Realistic expectations for the season
A lot of us, if we're honest, would accept a mid-table finish this season during this transitional, austere and consolidation period for the club. This would equate to losing quite a few games this season, so I for one and fully prepared for that, which would naturally mean cutting Les & Chris a little extra slack.
I thought Phillips, Faurlin, Luongo, Austin, Hall, Onuoha, Konchesky, Henry and Doughty all gave 7/8 out of 10 performances on Wednesday, which was a massive positive.
I also think there's some confusion amongst fans who think Charlie has been playing alone up front, without realising we're playing a 4-3-3, so in fact he has been getting a lot of support. His goal the other night was a classic example of this and what I've been banging on about for a while about playing to his strengths by supplying him with quality crosses from the wings - this is how he's scored most of his career goals and plays to his strengths. Pleased also to hear Matty Phillips saying this is exactly what CR has been working hard on in the training sessions.
WATRB
Since returning we've also been discussing some proposed improvements to the forum so as to avoid some of the issues which have occurred over the last few weeks on here (and partly why I took a break), something I personally have been keen to address, and which we're hoping to post a thread on soon.
Am still very busy with outside work but hoping to become more active on the forum in a few more days. (I also notice the slug-it-out area has been very quiet in my absence)
