Think that is all he wanted. Looks like he will end up CPFC number 1 now.

Will we get anything regarding a fee for Green? Original reports I thought said he would go on a free. I'd still be all for moving him just to free up his wages and get someone younger and provide stability to the spot.

Smithies deal hits a stumbling block (go get Bentley)

No secret that I am a massive Green fan, but if we could get that Bentley lad from Southend I wouldn't be totally against getting rid of Green if we can get a nominal fee for him. Admittedly I haven't seen Bentley play but his stats are mightily impressive & (IIRC) Southend only want £1.5m for him? Unless we get a solid replacement for him though, would be madness to get rid.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Happy to sign an established (albeit at a lower level) back up, and not fussed if Green stays or goes. If we keep him the Green will earn us more points than any other keeper we could get. Easy to point to a mistake by a goalkeeper but he has been a good goalkeeper for us. Whoever we get is a replacement for McCarthy and they will be on less wages, and we will have made money on the two transfers together so I think that our goalkeeping transfers have made sense this year. I'll be a bit miffed if Green goes on a free, if there is a fee of £2m then happy for us to sign Bentley as well as Smithies.

One would have thought that after such a long career and at his age, Rob Green would have by now learnt to have some idea how to kick a ball properly or be able to organise and command his defence a bit better than he does.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but for me, the number of basic errors the bloke makes more than negates some of the great saves he sometimes also makes.

But what would I know? Roy Hodgson thought him worthy enough for an England squad. On the flip side, Jamie Vardy got in it too, so who knows?

A serious question. Would it be better for one of our defenders to take the goal kicks?

Probably. But that would be farking embarrassing for everyone involved if a dude on £50k a week can't take goal kicks.

Green has been good for us but we need a new keep. Bentley or Smithies would do the job.

Good question.... Both our centre halves at the moment are probably two of the best 'punters up there' in the league!
