I think what you'll find is that after several seasons of watching players with loads of ability play with absolutely no desire or even respect for OUR club, that having somebody like Jamie Mackie is a much welcome change of pace.
Nobody is saying he's a world beater. In fact, look through this very thread and you'll find a few comments saying he has limited ability. What he lacks in ability, he makes up for in desire and attitude. 11 players like that will give US as QPR fans, a team to be proud of. When was the last time you could say that?

He told the Times: “QPR have lost too many games in recent times. The winning mentality at this football club needs to be rediscovered. We’ve got to be looking towards pushing for the play-offs.
“We don’t want to be a mediocre team whose aim is to just consolidate. There’s no point going into a season thinking we are just going to do OK.
“Obviously we’ve got to be realistic as it’s hard to go down and bounce back at the first attempt, but why can’t we be up there?
Now this is EXACTLY the type of attitude I want to see from our players - and our manager!'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. 'My dear Frodo, that is just what the Rangers are: the last remnant in the South of the great people, the Men of West London.' - Lord of the Rings, Book II, Chapter I - Many Meetings.
