It's just a rehash of the story going round the last few days Ginge. Saying we will offer a new deal if nobody meets our valuation. No mention of whether Charlie is actually interested, which he probably isn't.

eed and very little in it for Austin to sign, barring a small pay riseOriginally posted by Hove Ranger View PostIt's just a rehash of the story going round the last few days Ginge. Agree and very little in it for Charlie to sign a new deal, other than a relatively small pay rise, I'd guess. He'd probably make much more letting his contract run down & move next Summer when he can name his own signing on fee which a buyer will pay as they won't have to pay a transfer fee.
Oh well. Happy for him to stay.

Yeah old story.
What will happen, even if they negotiate a new deal, it will still be on the basis nobody meets the asking price. What could happen is they agree a deal in principple, but he will wait until the end of the window before signing it.
If nobody comes in, by signing a new deal it will secure a future fee for the club rather thna him going for nothing in a years time, and he can still get a nice signing on fee if it;s negotiated. Thats's not limited to signing for a new club. Anything can be discussed. The club may decide if he agrees a 2 year extension, then it's worth paying him a £2m signing on fee for example, because his goals coud see us promoted, and if not they can sell him in the next two years for a good fee so not losing out.
If done right, it can be a win win. I think Charlie's main focus is premier football as another good season could see him force his way into a Euro Championship squad and it might be his best chance at an international tournament.

Would love him to commit, but honestly, why would he? Bosman, massive wages as a free agent and massive signing on fee due to no transfer fee.

He could also insist on a lower buy out clause meaning he could re-sign with us, take a big bonus in doing so, play for a year, then have more interested parties in a year able to meet the lowere fee, at which point it would be about negotiating best deals with the clubs, and taking another nice signing on fee.
It's potentially beneficial for both parties.Last edited by Del; 12-08-2015, 05:21 PM.

1. Greatly increased pay packet for the next year. Surely a fair bit more than double. Perhaps £28kpw (as widely reported) up to around £60kpw. That is significant.
2. Increased security. If he gets crocked sometime during the next year he has a multi year contract to fall back on for the security of him and his family.
3. Increased chance of playing in the PL. Once he is tied down to a multi-year contract with us then this riduculous devaluation of his PRICE (but not his VALUE!) because he has less than a year remaining on his contract will disappear. Anybody who wants him will have to pay a fair price and they will know it - meaning we are likely to get offers that match our valuation meaning that Charlie is more likely to get the move he wants to the PL.
In short, there are lots of positives for Charlie. Fewer for his agent though!
I hope he's not letting his agent do his thinking for him. If Charlie tries to see out his contract and gets crocked during the next year it won't be his agent who is hurting!'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. 'My dear Frodo, that is just what the Rangers are: the last remnant in the South of the great people, the Men of West London.' - Lord of the Rings, Book II, Chapter I - Many Meetings.
