Hmm it's definitely an option but, having watching him against Atalanta (yes, I know it was his first game and was only a friendly), he definitely looked more confident and assured at right back. When he switched to the centre in the second half he was caught napping a couple of times and didn't look particularly strong in the air imo.

To be fair to surrey, I don't think he was comparing them in terms of talent/quality, just the commitment/desire part. Which he is right about imo. Obviously Clint is nowhere near the same level of quality as Terry.

I had a feeling I'd get dug out for the JT comparison.

Look, I'm not saying that Hill is as talented as Terry, or even as important for us as he is for Chelsea. I was simply making the comparison that they have certain qualities that are a prized commodity in modern football, and shouldn't be taken for granted. Sure, we could easily find a player more technically gifted / with a higher profile than Clint, but as the last few years has proven, building a football team is rarely as simple as that.

The fact that we are once again a Championship club negates everyone's general dismissal of Hill's abilities / age as well. Let's be honest, you don't have to be at the absolute top of your game every week in this division, as opposed to the PL. The best striker he'll face this season is probably Jordan Rhodes, who in fairness to him isn't Sergio Aguero or Diego Costa. Knowing that you won't be facing a World Class striker every week must make a huge difference psyhcologically to a veteran defender. It also means that against lesser sides, we can chop and change - and give him a rest. Will he be our first choice CB for the entire season? Absolutely not. Will he do a decent job when called upon? He always does.

You could make the same argument about John Terry and Chelsea - they've spent 20x what we have in the last decade, but they've never found anyone to replace him....when it comes down to it, passion, commitment and desire are not just buzzwords - they still mean something in football.

We tried going down the route of signing apparently talented players, and it didn't work. Why? They didn't give an Eartha Kitt about the club.

Keep writing Clint off, and he'll keep proving you wrong.
Who's been slagging him off? Weirdo. Everyone said they love Clint, you obviously don't get it.

You're making the point that he isn't good enough (in fact, your exact word was 'madness') to play regularly in this division, before a ball has even been kicked. Call me crazy, but I generally wait to see how a player performs over 10-15 games before making such sweeping accusations. That insinuates you slagging him off at the very least.

For weirdo, read anyone on this page who still (even ironically) considers a Joey Barton avatar to be a good idea.

I'm making the point that at 37 he should be backup instead of starting which Ramsey even said himself he wanted him as back up. And I made the point all the money we have spent and we still haven't got a player that could step up in his place. If you think that's slating Clint then yes you are a weirdo.
As for the avatar I hadn't even noticed and can't be bothered to change it.

Right, and I'm making the point that signing someone younger and technically better than Hill hasn't worked up to this moment, which in itself should suggest to you that he starts until we do actually find someone who can replace him. I'm not arguing that he shouldn't be back up in the long run, that almost goes without saying. I don't however have a problem with him starting whilst we find someone else, which is obviously where we differ.

As for the avatar - I noticed and it needs changing.

Clint Hill IS QPR, as far as I'm concerned -- his attitude, his class, his commitment to the team. Everyone gets it -- we're trying to find more CBs and we will, so Clint is used more sparingly, selectively on the field (which we'll need now that we're back to the 46-game Championship season). In fact, I'm in favor of an all-out competition for spots on our back line to find out which players are able, willing to bring it. The more the better.

If there were ever two players who I would use to directly describe what this club stands for, it would be Ale and Clint. Thorough professionals through and through. They bleed for the club and do everything for the club and that is a hugely valuable commodity in football these days. As for whether he should start, he himself knows he can't do the full season regularly but I have absolute faith he could easily deal with quite a few of the so called 'big strikers' the championship has to offer.

His age is irrelevant. He seems fit enough and rarely gets injured so I don't see why he can't have a solid season in Championship at centre back. I think his days as cover at left back should be over though.
