  • Still Not Changed View..Despite Defeat

We will be in the top 6 come May and Swansea will be in the bottom 6.

This game was for the taking and Yes Swansea were poor, but this game changed on the sending offs and Rowlands in particular who should have known better. First half was pretty even, with Nathan Dyer a constant threat and despite playing one up front, Prattley was always the man in space in the middle of the park. The build up play of swansea from the back was extremely slow, but quickened as they pressed more forward. Simpson and Routledge had half chances in the first half, Buzsacky hit a terrific shot over the bar. Honours even definitely come the half time whistle.

The second half we were definitely quickest out of the blocks, forcing a world classs save from there keeper, having a header just go wide. Then the pivotal moment was around 52 minutes, Routledge finds himself free on the penalty spot and a shot to the right or left and we are 1-0 up, we turn to each other and gasp at how he missed it, by the time we look back at the game (probably less than 10 seconds later), Rowlands is diving in, as Swansea try top break away. No qualms about the sending off. I don't know if he was trying too hard, but I've not seen him dive in this season, but he did on at least 4 occasions today. After the sending off, heads dropped and it was a matter of defending the draw. It looked like we would see a 0-0 draw, but on the back stick, Buzsacky fell asleeep and there forward slotted the ball home. It took time to adjust with 10 men and we were under the cosh without looking like conceding another and starting to get back into the game, when Watson who already had been booked slipped over and pulled his hand out to stop the Swansea players attacking.

Through the season we will have games like this. I was not disappointed with the way we started the second half and if we had 11 players on the pitch, we would only have seen one winner. No doubt, we will play a team soon who will have a player sent off and we need to captalise on that. I feel that maybe this was one game too much after such demanding games at Chelsea and Newcastle. We have a two week break and 4 home games out of 6 coming up, before the next International break we need to win the majority. Our starting 11 will now have to change for the next game and it will test our strength in depth and losing two players who are leaders on the pitch, will make life difficult for the game against Preston.

Agree with that pete, imo we prob would have won if we had kept 11 men on the pitch, just before Rowlands was sent off we had them under the cosh and looked the more likely to win...
Cant believe it, ive been PWOPER MUGGED ORF...

We came out of the blocks in the second half, turning point was Rowlands sending off. How we did not score in that first 5-10 mionutes of the second half I do not know.

I would play a compliment to Sousa, he might like playing one up front at home, but the midfield did get forward quickly.

Buzz and Routledge are great going going forward, but they don't track back that well, thats why we are so reliant on Watson and Rowlands.

I was half way out my seat when Routladge had the chance he smashed at the goalkeeper, in my head we were just about to go 1 up and it was gonna be a win all day long. How he didnt put that away, well i expect he's sat at home thinking the same thing right now....

As you know we had 2 other chances in the first half but were up the other end so it was tuff to know exactly how close they went... One was simpson the other was routledge, both were pushed out wide before shooting but on another day they would have gone in...

You don't know how we didn't score? We didn't score because we don't have much up top, there is no mystery to it.

another "classic" pete thread,a bit like the one he posted last march "we will reach 70 points and it will be enough to make play offs" and the one in the summer "where would a new striker fit in"....problem is he NEVER admits it when he gets it wrong, and he is wrong here again.firstly,he claims we lost because Rowley was sent off"the changing point in the game",but Swansea won against Sheff Utd last week with 9 men,yet swansea are crap, apparently!,but we are a top 6 team playing a crap team but lost 2-0:confused:.Swansea will not finish bottom 6 and without a quality striker we will not finish top 6.Is it not time for Pete to put his blind hate for Sousa behind him,and stop claiming they are crap just because he is in charge,EVEN when they beat us 2-0.

Realistically I would say a top 10 (between 7-10th) is most likely for a number of reasons, however come the summer if we can add a couple more players then I think we'll probably be a top side. We have had a few games where we've played really well so the potential is there, it might just be too soon to start anything.

Its also important to stick by the manager as all manager needs time to build a winning team it just can't happen over night. I would say give magilton 2 or possibly 3 seasons we'll definately be up there, time and patience is all whats needed.

i don't put it down to "his hate for Sousa" as you put it, but..............

                  1) his lack of football knowledge

                  2) his blind faith in the team

as they say "love is blind"

                  we've all been their

but some of us are over it & can see the woods through the trees, as they say

Agree with the sentiments of your post Pete.

Don't think we should be getting too dispondant over 1 bad away result. You only have to look at some of the odd results over the last 2 or 3 weeks to realise that even the best teams in this diivision will lose a few games you would expect them to win.

What is important now is that we come back after the international break and get back to winning ways.

I was sat near Pete and his mates at Barnsley away last season. The songs that were being sung were in full support of Sousa throughout the second half of a poor match - not quite the hatred that you portray Pete to have, Mr Muppet.

What this result typifies is how we don't take our advantage over 10 men (see same fixture last season) and how our opposition do (see yesterday)

Agree. Add to that the game at Cardiff, which was only a couple of days before Chelsea.
The Barnsley game was sandwiched inbetween Chelsea and Newcastle, and we had to work hard in that game as well. All with an unchanged team... which is what people were crying out for.

Down to 10, then 9 men... we simply ran out of steam, by the sounds of it.
That's why there is not so much moaning and analysing about yesterdays loss as there would have been.
We've had a good few weeks, and things are looking more settled and hopeful now.

Our biggest problem is STILL the lack of options/quality up front, and until that is addressed... we can hope to trouble the top 6, but can't expect not to have more results like yesterday every now and again.
As well as Borrowdale.... both their goals came from his side yesterday, (and Newcastles) and the fact that crosses are not being stopped means that we will always be vulnerable on that side while he's playing.

Improved a bit lately and tidy in posession, without being an attacking threat.... but his positioning is really poor, and he's just not solid, quick, or aggressive enough.
Connelly can't return quickly enough, although it's a shame he has to play there.

I honestly think that with the addition of a good left back, and a proper centre forward... we'd be in the play-offs in may. At least.

Had we taken our chances the game would have been over! Crying out for a top striker!

Thought Borrowdale was poor again. Seems to let so many crosses in and is painfully slow.
