So what's our opening day starting eleven as it stands?
You would off thought the defence was a priority to sort out,, plus every one knows chas in on his toes out off the club, good luck to him by the way.. A quality RB and forward is all we need now,, I like ya name Simon was one off my favourite players.. One goal no one ever talks about, his overhead kick against Norwich pure class
I think it was against Cardiff mate, unless it was another overhead? One from outside the area? Brilliant goal, following another great strike from outside the box in the same game. Oozed class. Someone posted the other day highlights of our quarter final fa cup match against palace which was one of my all time favourite matches for the pure emotion everyone felt at the late goal. But looking at the match again (for the first time in donkeys years) you were reminded what a good player Stainrod was - not just with clever flicks etc but terrified the life out of defenders and was working harder than I remember. I know I am in a minority of one and prob a lot to do with my age at the time but Stainrod was my favourite Rs striker, preferred him to Les..
I was at that game mate .....Remember it well .
I remember saying to a few of my Rangers pals after Trevs overhead Barnsley kick that Super Simon had done something similar down the loft end one mid week evening ( I think) against Cardiff ......and very few of them could recall it .
Absolutely loved Stainrod ......a true maverick number 10 .

You might be right about Cardiff,, that game against palace he was the dogs wotsits,, going back to the overhead goal I always thought it was against Norwich and he got a hat trick that day,, but I am getting old lol

Always meant to ask .......Why you have Tony Currie as your avatar ???.. I can still picture Super Simon swaggering around Wembley in the 82 Final Shirt !!

I like this team although I might describe the formation like this (effectively 4-4-1-1 aot 4-2-3-1):
------------------Green----------------
Furlong-----Onouha----Caulker------Yun
-----------------Sandro----------------
Phillips-----------Luongo----------Chery
-------------------Fer-----------------
------------------Austin----------------
'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. 'My dear Frodo, that is just what the Rangers are: the last remnant in the South of the great people, the Men of West London.' - Lord of the Rings, Book II, Chapter I - Many Meetings.
As the squad stands now other than the weakness at right back this is pretty good
Green
?
Onouha
Caulker( dont seem to have anyone else)
Yun
Phillips
Faurlin
Luongo
Henry
Chery
Fer
Austin
only problem dont think in anyway that Austin,Fer or phillips will be around,

Its a fair question mate! One answer is technical incompetence (I wouldn't know how to change it - if someone can do it for me great). And the second is I also really liked TC - in terms of my personal favourite Rs player (not necessarily saying the best, just the one I liked the most) it wd be a real toss up between Stainrod and TC with Glen Roeder prob third.
Good article, thanks for that. Great touch that he wrote a letter to the QPR programme thanking the fans when he left. Can't imagine many of the current crop doing that...
