And McCarthy won't dislodge Speroni, not if he couldn't dislodge Green.

Keepers need a run of games to settle down and show what they're really about. Even Green had a few dodgy performances when occasionally filling in for Julio Cesar a few years back.

Palace chairman on talksport last night say he'd like to get 2 or 3 more tranfers over the line soon, think McCarthy may be one of them, and possibly Austin he was questioned on Austin, he said lots of clubs and competion looking, pos moving to a bigger club than palace,

Shocking to let Mccarthy leave after only playing 3 games since signing him. He should have been given the no1 jersey this season.
I wonder how many goals will we concede outside the penalty box this season.

Probably fewer times than the defence disappear for the last 10 minutes of the match......

I'd be slightly annoyed if McCarthy were to leave but not overly bothered. If we get another 3-4 years out of Green, I'd be happy. Proven in both the Champ and the Prem. McCarthy may or may not be a future England material, Green is already proven, a "good egg" and we definitely need continued stability esp in defence.

Hasn't really had enough games here to judge him, reason is Green has been excellent, got himself back in the England squad last season on his performances in a side that was struggling, without him Rs would have been down in January, at Palace i think the Status quo will remain speroni number 1

Speroni has been a loyal servant to us and is a club legend, the man has been with us through everything including administration. But last season, if we're being honest, he showed signs of a decline. Several frustrating mistakes, and with Hennessey wanting to leave, we do need a new keeper. Just a matter of whether or not McCarthy is a suitable long term option.

Bit gutted McCarthys going if I'm honest.

Was a decent keeper at Reading then came here and sat on the bench. Made 1 or 2 starts in a sh it team and all of a sudden he is pony according to some?

Not a lover of Palace by any stretch but Speroni has been a fantastic keeper over the years.

Tbf I knew nothing about him when he came just judge on what I see and he was pony vs Sheff Utd & Leicester making errors for goals in both games and when he came on when Green got injured (can't remember the game) his kicking was just as bad as Green's (which is poo!). Had a decent game v Liverpool tbf to him.

Don't get me wrong, he may well go on to be a very good keeper, but I can only judge on what I see and I was not impressed myself so won't lose any sleep over him going - as a reserve keeper in the 2nd tier, he is more than replaceable with £3.5m to play with.

I thought that he was going to be a v good signing when he joined us as had always looked good for Reading especially when they were in the prem.
To be fair he has not had a run in the side but has started 3 games and conceded 11 goals.
As soon as it was apparent that Green was staying there was no way that McCarthy would stay to be on the bench.
I hope that he is a success at Palace but feel that Speroni will be No 1 again next season.

Once Pardew sees him alongside Speroni in training, my bet is that Speroni will remain number 1 until he gets beaten from 40 yards again.....
