  • Alex McCarthy

    Palace fan here in peace.
Obviously McCarthy's been linked heavily with us, is he any good? What's he like?

Also, as you've got a friendly tomorrow against Dundee at the Hive, what are the chances that he'd play? I'm from near the area so I might pop in if he does play

Plenty of threads on McCarthy on here. He's a bit marmite, clear as crystal he's got talent but can't seem to dislodge Rob Green. Personally think he will be in the England squad next season and u have a bargain on your hands.

Wont be playing tomo for us I'd hazard.

Don't think he'll be in the squad if he's linked with Palace. He's clearly a good keeper but never had the chance to show it for us. Would be a good acquisition, but gonna be hard to dislodge Speroni too!

Think Green and Lumley will feature tomorrow to be honest

It's difficult to case Judgement on Alex to be honest, he's not been given a massive run in the team. Not done too bad when he's featured and obviously has potential. Not set the world alight though. Think his career has stalled at QPR.

Quite a few people would rather keep McCarthy and get rid of Green due to age and wage, but I think currently Green is the better keeper.

Haven't been that impressed with him on the few occasions he played last season and a bit bemused why he doesn't fancy the fight with Green for the No 1 spot but does with Speroni. Didn't play enough to really make a fair judgement but didn't command the penalty area enough for me and looked lethargic getting down against Leicester.

Speroni is average at best. McCarthy will be Palace No.1 next season.

Speroni has been great for Palace. A loyal servant as well. Admittedly he is nearing the end of his career but to call him average is a bit harsh.

fair enough ccj.............. Average by Premier League standards. No doubting he has been a decent servant to Palace but I'll be surprised if he keeps AM out the side next season.

He's not as good as some think. He couldn't see himself displacing Rob Green, so not alot of self belief either.

                    Speroni is better than Green.
                    Always has been.

Thought we should have gone in for him on our first flirtation with the Premier League.

Next Peter Schmeichel if you listen to some on here mate.

In reality even those who watch us every week would have to admit that he hasn't played enough for QPR to make a fair judgement of his abilities. If memory serves correctly he has played 3 league games and 1 cup match. I watched 3 of those 4 games and wasn't massively impressed. Made a few good stops against Liverpool and couldn't be blamed for the way we chucked the match away, other than that I don't believe he has played well at all.

That said though, if you judged Rob Green on his first 4 or 5 games in a QPR shirt you would be saying the same and he's gone on to be arguably our best keeper since David Seaman.

Personally I think he's worth a punt at 3.5m (if that is indeed his buyout). He may go onto be awesome or he might not. I think he does need to move though as it looks apparent that we will be sticking with Greeno. Regardless of how well (or not) Mcarthy has played for us, he is certainly too good to be warming the bench in the Championship!

                            No he's not!

And we did try and sign Speroni but couldn't get him so we turned our attention to Paddy Kenny. Pretty sure Warnock even says so in his book.

Nowhere near the ability of Jan Stejskal.
