But for me the real issue is why such a low release clause they paid at least that to buy him from Reading. The fee should have been £5m as a minimum.
not in the know, but have a funny feeling that there may have been a couple of release clauses... a higher one if the team had stayed in the prem and a lower one if we're in the championship.

ps not sure we really paid as much as £6m for mccarthy... would seem extravagant if he really was seen as competition for green rather than a shoe-in for the number 1 shirt.

Most Championship clubs won't have a £3.5m keeper near their first team, let alone on the bench.

Don't really see the issue as we've still got the best keeper in the Championship by an absolute country mile. McCarthy isn't the only up and coming keeper in the country.

McCarthy wasn't willing to wait for Green to leave and fair play to him. I would bet he'll find it hard to shift Speroni as well.

I dont see how, Steve Parish is too busy flicking his fringe out of his eyes to send out tweets.

You also need to take in to account his wages. There's no point wasting bigish wages (I presume) on 2nd choice keeper when it could be used elsewhere for a 1st team player.

Seen quite a bit of him and he was outstanding this year. Almost scary how good he was so I doubt he would come to play second fiddle.

If TF said on twitter signing two players in next 24hrs this board would be in meltdown everyone complaining

I'd put Westwood ahead of green, shame Chelsea didn't buy
Him to be honest, he's past his best now and if we got £2mil we would have been laughing.

It isn't really a steal when you consider we paid £6million for him a year ago, and hardly gave him a game. Why we would agree to a clause in a players contract whereby they can leave for less than we paid for them really does beat me. McCarthy is one of the most highly rated young English goalkeepers around, and already is a very good Championship keeper.

Tbh, could well be said last season he played some of the best football of his career?

Joe Lumley will be our new Number 2, this Maxted will go into the EDS, is my guess.

We didn't pay £6m though did we, of course we wouldn't have a sell on fee for less than we paid.
