  • Mates that made it as a footballer?

just wondered how many of you have mates who made it to be a professional footballer whether that's league 2 or above?

Got a few that play and always find it strange watching them.

Did anyone here nearly make it or play any semi or pro footie also?

I have played football for the same club as Ronny Johnsen. Not Manchester United, obviously

Played against john Salako 4 or 5 times when we were 15, I reminded him of this when I spotted him and his palace mates in The Blue Orchid nightclub in Croydon many years ago, we had quite a good natter.

Haha fordy who was that for? I played with him and against him quite a bit... Got to say when was at Maidstone he was pretty decent though never one minute thought he'd be a Man U player.

          You play ryman league?

Not friends but my Dad played against Stuart Pearce when Pearce was maybe 16/17. Playing Sunday league football and believe it or not Pearce was in goal.
Also Jason Roberts and Nathan Ellington both went to my Secondary school a few years after i left.
Paul Bruce Used to coach my two boys at primary school and i used to speak to him every week when i went to pick them up. He got me a few tickets. Still have his phone number. If the Rumors were true i grew up with Dennis Wise's and Bradley Walsh's cousins.

An old mates son plays for Charlton, Nick Pope, his brother Josh was an even better keeper but got messed about at Ipswich and got disillusioned.

I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

An old primary school mate plays for Gills now, Callum Davies. Has struggled with injury and went on loan to Dover last season.

I've spent a few nights in there mate. He once tried to chat my sister up at The Grasshopper in Westerham.

Went to school with Carlton Cole. Was in the year below me so we played football together literally everyday. Lived not far so we would sometimes hangout. Nice guy, not seen or spoken to him for years though.

I know Mark Pembridge quite well. A nice bloke.
Not well enough to call him a mate though
