QPR Considering a new contract for Austin

The only thing that would make sense is a two year extension with a £10m release clause in it from next summer.
However, this is just posturing from the club to get those bids on the table. He'll be gone inside the month and we all have to live with it I'm afraid...

So instead of wanting £15m with 1 year left this Summer, you'd advocate us wanting only £10m next summer albeit with 2 years left on his contract (with your extension) ?
Other than that, I agree with your sentiments.

Obviously the contract would need to be good for Charlie too. If we offer him £60k per week (just my guess on what others are likely to offer) that is £32k per week more than the reported £28k he is getting now - so right off the bat he'd be £1.66m further ahead over the next year. And since the multi-year contract would eliminate the PRICE reduction that comes with having only one year left on your contract, it would be more likely that somebody will meet our valuation and he will get the move to the Premier League that he wants and deserves.
Yes, we would likely need to include a release clause but I'd say £15m for this summer and £20m for next summer. I'd also place a limit on when that release clause is active so that if he goes we still have time to get in a replacement.
If Charlie's agent doesn't like it then Charlie can carry on and play the next year in the Championship for £28k per week and hope he doesn't have a drop in form or get a serious injury while he doesn't have the security of a multi-year contract (although I'm positive we will get our £15m this summer anyway). There are lots of good reasons for Charlie to sign a new multi-year deal with us - and far fewer for his agent to recommend it to him, since his agent will be alright Jack if Charlie gets a long term injury while not having the security of a multi-year deal - but Charlie will be screwed.Last edited by dsqpr; 17-07-2015, 05:42 PM.'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. As I said above, Charlie signing a new contract with us makes a lot more sense for CHARLIE than it does for his AGENT. I have a strong suspicion that Charlie is getting bad advice and perhaps at some point he will start thinking about what is best for HIMSELF, not his effing AGENT. Playing out the last year of your deal is risky, particularly when much bigger money and a multi-year deal is on offer.Last edited by dsqpr; 17-07-2015, 05:52 PM.'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf.
