Crikey can't believe they've pulled this off. 1 year ago I would have believed it and, tbh, not thought too much of it as his career had stalled and I didn't particularly rate him, but given the season he has just had (admittedly tailed off 2nd half, but as did West Ham in general) I am amazed that 1) they've sold him and B) they a PL side hasn't snapped him up?!

Top signing for boro. Don't think it's a major reflection on the league more a boy hood club thing for a player whose earnt millions and now at 30 wants to go back to his club.
Respect him for it as there was prem interest in him. Will be a big player for them.

If we keep Phillips though I'd be more happy than having Downing.

Agreed. If we keep Phillips then we have the better winger, but Downing is a good winger and will do well for Boro.

Not beefing cos its a good thread, BUT it is wrong to have a thread abput a player whos signed for another club in the qpr section imo. Why should we give them or him any notice or respect by having it in the r's section.

Agreed. They wete close last season, but have recruited well so should definitely be a top 3 side if not leading the way.

Some of the comments on here do make me laugh. Overrated, not that good ect ect....

He is a phenomenal signing for Middlesbrough. The bloke created the most chances for anyone in the league last year. To get a player of his quality at a championship club is amazing.

Really think some people need their heads checking. Such a big gulf between the prem and championship. If boro find a couple of people who can put the ball in the net they have a hell of a chance to go up this season.

He is a very good player. At Liverpool he got a lot of stick becuase of few assists, but that was down to the strikers being abysmal at converting chances created. If you checked the stats for chances creeted he was right up there, but the likes of Carrol and even Suarez that season were awful at taking them.

As mentioned already, last season he created more than anyone other english player in the prem.

Because they're going to be one of our rivals. I posted it because I thought it was signing of the season so far. Maybe we should make a thread of what else is happening in the championship transfer wise as I find it interesting to see who our rivals are signing.

I think it's all relevant to QPR personally. As you say fordy it's interesting to see how our rivals are gearing up. Think the idea of a thread on the incomings and outgoings of the other teams in our league would be a top idea

Yeah totally agree, and like i said i wasnt beefing fordy, i just dont like the thought of any boro lurkers seeing a big thread on one of their signings in our rangers section and them getting any pleasure that we are a tad worried. A whole thread on other clubs would be the prefect option imo.

Downing is good but the money they have paid reminds me of what we used to do.
Big names from years ago on high wages.
